Turn your old one off when the new one arrives. That way, no melting ice will start dripping until it's in the back of their lorry.

You really should turn the old one off now especially if there is freezer is iced up you don’t really want it defrosting over night.
"At what stage should I be turning off the old 'fridge freezer? Its a "no frost" so there isn't any ice", said the OP!

I have a no frost FF but the damn thing does freeze up and most of the ice is hidden.

I would think the requirement to turn off the freezer before uplift is incase any of the condensor cooling fins are exposed and  sub zero, making it difficult to transport out to the van. Especially if they are jamming parts of their anatomy into the appliance.

When we bought our new FF from John Lewis the pre-delivery instructions were that the old FF should be free of ice and water.

If you follow Swipe's advice you may find that the chappies will refuse to remove it.

If they do refuse to take it, a working fridge freezer should be easy enough to get rid of on FB Marketplace for nothing or even a small amount. We had several people enquire about ours.

Frost free appliances can get more frost than regular ones do. Frost free ones just hide the frost where you can't see it.

There is no rule about turning a freezer off for recycling apart from whatever works for your convenience.

The reason that new fridges should be left to settle is that they contain compressor oil and this needs to be allowed to settle at the bottom of the compressor before the compressor turns on (think shaking olive oil and balsamic vinegar) otherwise the compressor may running dry which could lead to overheating or damage, and also the oil may be drawn up into the evaporator coils which could cause a blockage.

I always find it's easier to follow instructions if you can visualise the reason why you are being asked to do these apparently unusual things!  :)

If the company collecting the old freezer don't want any water in the back of their van they set a specific set of rules which you have to comply with or they won't take the freezer away. So, YES, there usually are rules.

The question the OP orignally asked was:
Its a "no frost" so there isnt any ice. But is there some sort of rule which says it needs turning off X number of hours before collection?
i.e. "Is there a similar rule by the manufacturer akin to the reverse of turning the freezer on?".

To which my answer was:  "No, there is not".  :)
