'Fridge Freezer advice

Hello all.

I've purchased a new 'fridge freezer and its arriving tomorrow. I understand that when it arrives I must not turn it on for 4 hours and then I must wait 24 hours before I use it....is this correct?

Also....Curry's is taking away my old 'fridge freezer. At what stage should I be turning off the old 'fridge freezer? Its a "no frost" so there isnt any ice. But is there some sort of rule which says it needs turning off X number of hours before collection?

Thanks :)

Usually the advice is to not turn them on for 24 hours and then check with a thermometer when they are down to temperature. What does the manual say? You will be able to download it from the manufacturers website to check before delivery.

Good idea re the manual. I hadnt thought of downloading it before the 'fridge freezer arrives. I'll do that now. Thank you :)

I always thought you had to leave it in place for 24hrs before switching it on.
  • I think it could have just been four hours when my new fridge freezer was delivered last year.

Brilliant....I need to wait 3 hours before switching it on and 8 hours before putting food into it, once switched on

Not sure , still, about when to switch off old appliance.

It also says 'do not jam any part of your body into the appliance'  :open_mouth:  :p

I've deleted my original post and done a bit of a search.

Samsung for example say 4 hours if transported upright and 24 if laid down.

That seems to be the general consensus.

We had an integrated fridge installed by Curry's last week.  Switched off the old one the evening before.  Was told to leave the new one for 2 hours before switching on, then another 2 hours before it was ready for use.

Is there anything in the old one or have you already emptied it? Are you storing food waiting for the new one to get down to temperature or are you restocking after the new one is ready?

I suggest you take the last part of the instructions very seriously, it is almost certainly there because someone has previously been harmed doing it...

We just had a fridge freezer delivered from AO. We turned out existing freezer off an hour before the new one arrived and made sure there was no water or ice inside.

We had to wait 4 hours before turning the new freezer on. After that we just waited a while and then put our existing freezer food in the freezer.

You really should turn the old one off now especially if there is freezer is iced up you don’t really want it defrosting over night.
