Once you get to a certain point all you are doing is amplifying the noise as well. I think the bottom line is your aerial isn't good enough.
  • Why don't you take the freeview box downstairs and plug it into the main aerial. Then set it to auto-tune and find all the channels. If it doesn't find the missing ones then you've got real problems !! If it finds the missing channels, take the freeview box upstairs and plug it back into the portable aerial. Hopefully it will have retained the settings and you "may" be able to get some form of signal albeit it may break up quite badly.

I think the cheapest was would be to check you can get all the channels down stairs, if you can, get a coaxial cable splitter and install your free view box downstairs in addition to what is there now.

The get something like this (clicky)

Bob is then your fathers brother

He/she would then be able to watch only what was showing on the downstairs receiver, hardly an ideal solution.
  • No, just install another freeview box downstairs, they are only about £15 these days. But you have to check that the video sender can change channels on the freeview box remotely otherwise it's a long trip downstairs !! Also if you are going to have a recorder then you have to be careful about how that is setup and you will only be able to record the channel that you are watching, unless you get another freeview box, how many is that now ?

I am sure that his " mate downstairs " will be happy with having another Freeview Receiver and sender unit running on his electricity bill, and cluttering up his room.;)

Thanks for the ideas guys but Inactive is right would rather try and not have any more boxes in the front room cos the router for the internet is in the front room at the moment :)

Think im going to try and take the freeview box down stairs and give it a try on the TV downstairs and see if it retains the settings for the channels :)

Its just annoying that i cant get the TV station (DAVE TV) that i was really after lol but hey ho :)
