I've just had a look on the website regarding who can give blood.
I am willing to give, but well to be honest I do smoke the odd joint and occasionally dabble with other substances(very rarely these days 2-4 times a year-so obviously wouldn't donate near these events).Never injected anything or been an addict, I just enjoy bending my mind every so often.(Sorry to those who object-well actually I'm not,it's my life my body, and I'm glad for the experiences I've had.)
This doesn't seem to be to be covered in the questions on the site, does anyone know if I'd be rejected?
They seem pretty rigid with some of the questions,(sorry cant quote precisely, but to this effect) e.g "have you had sex in the past 12 months with a male who has had oral or anal sex with another male."
Well as it happens ,no I haven't,but have all gay men suddenly got aids-or am I missing something?

Re: have all men suddenly got aids No, but there is a higher risk of HIV/Aids than in heterosexual sex.

Re: dope and other substances - I don't know, but if you ring the National Blood Service they are very helpful. You don't have to say who you are.
Again I think the risk is associated with needles, so it sounds as if you would be OK, but do check first.

Is that A rheusus positive or negative? They'd be happy with either.

Smoking shouldn't make any difference - I used to smoke and they never sent me away :rotfl:

Hi, can i ask-is there a website telling you reasons for NOT donating blood? Im just wondering because i would like to start donating (and hopefully my OH will come too-hes donated before) but will medication affect this? Ive got problems with high blood pressure and am on a low dose of medication to help control this. Or is there a number to ring up so i can ask? When having a blood test-the nurse told me id be ideal for donating as they always find my veins easily/no problems.

    Thank you,

    keely.

The best thing you can do keely is ring the national blood service and ask them.

  • I was a regular blood donor up until getting pregnant. I think I can donate a year after the baby is born. I do find it quite shocking, however, that homosexual men still can't donate - one of my close gay friends has been in a monogamous relationship for over 4 years and still can't donate, yet some of his promiscous friends donate no questions asked.

I gave blood up until I found out I was pregnant. In fact I tried to give blood before I knew I was pregnant and was rejected because my iron levels were too low.

"Anaemia?" my other half said. "Isn't that wot pregnant women get?" :rotfl:
