Will be resuming donation once my time is expired after having baby no 2. Keep up the good work everyone!
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
  • i went yesterday for my first time ever. it was ok, i would be lying if i said i wasnt a bit nervous but it wasnt as uncomfortable as i thought it would be. I have very deep veins so i had to have the head nurse find one :o but all things considered i have no bruising although my arm is a bit sore still. i have been very excitedly telling everyone today as it was my new years resolution to give the nhs a pint of my finest red stuff if it was up to their standards. i was also shocked to find out stocks are low and they really need it so i hope mine will get used.

i am going to do the bone marrow next. everyone has been telling me its all giant needles and generals but i should think the positive outweighs the negative and i would like to help someone if i could

I registered as a bone marrow donor and was tissue typed in 1992 but have never been called on as yet, after all the blood I have donated I still feel that I have more to give and would really like to give that little bit extra before I get too old. I was called once for extra testing but not used as there was someone with a closer match than me.
I just keep going along every 3 weeks, Claire sticks me with the needle and we have a good chinwag and solve all of lifes problems in 90 minutes, next due to go 14th Feb.

I'm not allowed to give blood because I have allergies. (Not to needles or to giving blood, I might add. I had quite a few blood tests when I was younger, and never had any problems.) It doesn't make any sense to me, but I've asked two different doctors since, and they've backed up the original doctor who said I couldn't donate. Although they couldn't come up with a valid explanation for why...

I'm grateful to everyone who can donate and who does donate, though. You just never know when it might be you or one of your loved ones who needs a transfusion. Good on you all! :D
  • I love donating though I'm a bit scared I'm gonna have to stop.

last few times have been v difficult getting blood and the last time I started to bleed under the skin and was left with huge track marks - junkie look is not good!

Don't let this put anyone off as I am quite slim and have the skinniest arms in the world with veins to match.

My OH donates no probs - he's a right gusher LOL.
