Hi all,

My flight was delayed by over 4hrs, airline have admitted we are entitled to compensation but they have been extremely slow to pay out.

We went away to Turkey in October Half term and initially they offered vouchers as they said they could do that straight away, we refused the vouchers and have sent them our bank details ( made an error with the BIC code but sent the correct one soon after) but since then nothing has been forthcoming.

I've been in touch and all I get from customer services is it's been sent to the payment department and that's it.

Anything I can do to speed this up?

Thanks.

Unlikely that there's much you can do to speed things up, but which airline are you referring to?

Could it be they have paid the wrong account, from your details & are now waiting for that to be returned? Or that payment dept think it has already been refunded?

Oct half term means just over a month ago.. unfortunately at the speed of some of these airline customer services for non - urgent matters, that (or longer) is par for course.

Mine (on behalf of family) took 6 months with Kenya Airways.. slow but at least they compensated without any quibbles.

Ah - as above, if you think that a few weeks is "extremely slow" then you might wish to read previous reports of payment delays in threads such as:

Thats shocking! I am basing this off a previous delay with Tui that we had, reported it on a Friday, settled and payed on the Monday!

    Bump.

Ive sent them numerous messages now, latest one being I'll be lodging an official complaint with the CAA and they continue to ignore them.

Is it worth sending a 'Notice of Action'  email as stated in the Sticky thread on here?

I won't give up until they have settled this!

    Thought? Thanks.

It's unlikely that CAA escalation will be productive, given the airline has already accepted liability, i.e. the CAA doesn't have authority to expedite the actual payment process:
PACT will advise on whether we think you have a valid complaint, and if so will take it up with the business concerned, but we do not have the legal powers to impose a solution on an airline.

A letter before action can sometimes prompt businesses into a response, but in general it's only worth doing this if you're prepared to follow through with the threat of action, and it's unlikely that court action within the UK will be viable against a Turkish airline with no legal presence here, so are you confident in your ability to chase them in Turkey?

I'll give it a go and see where we land as they seem to not won't to abibe by the law.

Yes, as often observed on the consumer rights board, there can be a world of difference between having rights and actually enforcing them!
