I participate in the Home Energy Forum in which there is a thread entitled Octopus Agile.  I have been arguing for a post reference system in which each contribution is automatically given a serial "#" reference number. This makes reference to previous contributions vastly simpler.  I have seen this system elsewhere in MSE I believe.  How can I request that the Octopus Agile forum is brought in line?

Where have you seen this elsewhere within MSE?

My recollection is that this was a feature of an old version of the forum but that it hasn't been around since 2020, hence its discussion in threads such as:

which does include the workaround of using the date/timestamp link to identify posts.

I thought that it - the # reference system - was still "current" in some if not all MSE forums. Either way it seemed to me to be such a practical feature that there would need to be little discussion.  Optional as well for those that don't agree. I hope you can extend it as I have requested.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm just another forum member rather than being in any position to do anything about the forum's functionality!  Post numbering isn't used on any of the boards that I tend to frequent, but I'd have expected it to be 'all or nothing' rather than selectively implemented, so doubt that it's something already present that can simply be 'extended', hence the question about specifically where you've seen it on here?

Sorry I can't find it.  But I repeat my request / suggestion anyway.

As I see somebody has already suggested on that thread, copying the link to the relevant comment seems quick and easy? (and takes you straight there)

Different objectives. I don't want to copy etc,.  I just want to refer briefly to the previous post(s) in ongoing correspondance.

Separate issue: I had a technical problem with a different thread. My post "locked up".  Can you say how to contact the moderator in such situations, or whoever can provide technical help. Thanks.

Back to my original point again. I agree 100% with the views expressed in the link you sent on 25 November.  I'd like to resurrect what was said at the time since the points seem just as relevant now.  Is there someone (we) can forward it to?

The sticky thread at the top of this board addresses both of your questions, although I suspect that the forum team probably prefers change requests and feature suggestions to be kept to this feedback board rather than being pursued separately via email.

The explanation about the # 1 etc reference numbers is that they are used, to good effect, on another (a different) advice web site: Bleeping Computer which I often use.  If you look it up you can easily see how their use cuts down on a lot of the text manipulation that features on this site. The Forum Team might like to take a look.
