Old TV, new soundbar

That TV's manual makes no mention of audio return channel (out from TV to an external device). A very outside chance of analogue audio out from the TV over hdmi, I suppose?
Worth a try. If not TV audio will have to be via a simple Scart to 3.5mm jack plug adapter cable setup as the TV has no spdif capability.
It'll also need all the different remotes probably to control switching, volume, input choice etv.,..
A new TV seems overdue, methinks: the manuals are from 2006 so approaching 20 years of age?1 -
@Rodders53 you're right that it's a 20-year-old TV. I bought the soundbar with the aim of sprucing it up a bit to put off the day I had to replace it. It still works fine and I have always been more or less happy with it. I have got it working using the other suggestions in the thread but will take note of the Scart to jack plug adaptor cable idea, thank you.

Just another thing to consider your 20 year old TV might be rather more power hungry than modern TVs and so you might be spending more on electricity than you would do if you bought a new TV so maybe factor in that cost
Does your TV have a power consumption label saying how many watts it uses2 -
You could of course just buy a new TV which would give you a much better picture, resolve you connection problems and with the option of Black Friday bargains it would not be to expensive1

AN upgrade from a 720p panel is certainly an option. This 32" TV is full HD and runs Fire OS natively for £127 - TCL 32SF560-UK 32" Full HD QLED Direct LED Smart TV with Fire TV, Alexa Voice Control, Vivid Colour & Enhanced Brightness : Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo1

Agree re power consumption I had a Panasonic (maybe 8 years old at the time) and I moved that to another room and upgraded (same make) from 32" to 40" and the power consumption of the 40" model is considerably less than the old 32" one.mta999 said:Just another thing to consider your 20 year old TV might be rather more power hungry than modern TVs and so you might be spending more on electricity than you would do if you bought a new TV so maybe factor in that cost

If you do decide to run the firestick in the tv,if picture quality is better that way, and then run lead from scart socket to soundbar you may find there is a slight lack of synchronization between the tv speakers and the sound bar.cathybird said:@Rodders53 you're right that it's a 20-year-old TV. What I did was just turn down tv speakers and rely only on the soundbar.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
In principle it could do all kinds of things to the picture but most soundbars are a simple straight passthrough of the video and could be surprised if Denon had put some extra features in there and arent talking about them.cathybird said:Grumpy_chap, flaneurs_lobster and MyRealNameToo, plugging the Fire Stick in as you all suggest worked perfectly, with sound suddenly booming out of the soundbar so gratifyingly loudly that I jumped! It would not have occurred to me that anything of the sort was possible, so many many thanks (sorry but I really don't understand electronics). The only thing is the picture on the TV looked weirdly fuzzy for a moment, but then seemed to more or less resolve itself - would I have been imagining that? Will the picture be a little bit worse because I've now got the Fire Stick plugged into the soundbar?
The pathway of the video will be fully digital so all 0 and 1s which are much more binary in that they work or dont work rather than like analogue signals that can be impacted with interference but still work. Some snake oil salesman will always tell you that by spending £400 on a special HDMI cable the picture will be miles better but thats the placebo affect.1 -
Why not use the optical connection between the TV and sound bar if the TV has one.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
