02 pay as you go gets 5g and wifi calling

My 02 classic sim got this today.
To be honest never noticed till i saw the wifi calling icon on my phone.
I wonder if its a national roll out, or locally were 3g has been switched off.
Anyone know?

Mine ain't. 

As you say, maybe 3g related since it's still on here, or just a phased rollout (number or geographical maybe).

I was moaning to a friend that, as my new home has lousy mobile reception, I may have to ditch my O2 classic for something with wifi calling. I got my phone out to show her and "O2 UK Wi-Fi calling" was scrolling across the top of the screen! They'll do anything to keep my custom, that £20 a year must be rally important to them.

It’s national but rolling out in tranches.

O2 Classic SIM - does anyone get SMS from short numbers eg PayPal 2FA codes?

I thought I did but now nothing being received although "ordinary" SMS in/out OK.

Yes short codes work fine,and 2fa codes.

The only thing iv noticed since i got 5g and wifcalling,i dont get a balance alert when i send a text or make a call anymore.

Ta for that, weird issue. I'll try swapping the SIM to another phone. 

I'm locked out of my second-best PayPal account, trying everything before having to ring them.

Same here, although I get balance alerts occasionally.

JIC anyone cares, turns out that the phone number on my PayPal account (07.....50) is a completely different phone number to my O2 Classic (07.......50). Replaced one with t'other - short codes are fine.

This is how you find out you have too many old PAYG SIM numbers still attached to accounts.

2fa been working fine as well as i/c shortcode but *#10# doesn't seem to work any more.
I think I got a balance alert when I last texted back in September.
Also got WiFi calling but didn't spot when it became active.
