Out of interest, can you provide some examples of institutions who don't supply annual interest statements?masonic said:poseidon1 said:
Isn't that what the year end certificates supplied by all the banks supposed to do?masonic said:alfista said:It is ridiculous that we (the customers) can't see the BBSI figures on-line in the HMRC system. They have the data, why can't we see it ?It's not intended for taxpayers to see the data. It is for internal use. HMRC don't make ISA returns visible online either.A case could be made that the institutions you are a customer of (i.e. banks and building societies) should probably be providing you with the information.
Certainly that's all I rely on to complete my self assessment returns and over the last 14 years HMRC dont appear to have had any issues with my interest reporting.Yes, exactly. Very few of the providers I use supply these any more, even if requested (which I used to attempt).0 -

Judging by others' comments I am not alone. If I only declared interest from those institutions that sent me a year end certificate, I'd save a lot in tax.
Odd, I have around 22 accounts with around 16 different banks.
Everyone (except) Kent Reliance supply certificates online ( although some do take a little digging to find). Even my investment platforms do so for interest earned on their GIAs.
In the case of Kent Reliance I have had to send a DM request online each year and then they send it in the post. However they have recently upgraded their online web account, so hopefully online access now accommodated.
Out of curiosity, which banks do not supply at all in your case?0 -
Hmm...every single outfit that I use provides some kind of statement of interest earned.masonic said:poseidon1 said:

The only fly in the ointment, for me, is a building society that insists on providing a statement for a calendar year rather than a financial year...0 -

Although this does not help if you don't self assess and want to know what the bank has reported to HMRC - not a problem I have.2 -
Nationwide definitely does, although the pathway to find it is obscure enough for them to produce an explanatory guide -masonic said:gt94sss2 said:

I never bother with year end certificates unless they arrive in the post or are very easy to access on line. If I do read them it's only to make sure they tally with my records. I just keep my own records throughout the year and those records contain the numbers that go on my self assessment. That's what works for me with around 70 accounts but I can understand how others might want to do it differently.1

@poseidon1 Thanks, there is no chance I'd have found that Nationwide pathway without the guide. But it is only possible to navigate from accounts that are still open. So I will not be able to use it for my 2025/26 interest certificate for my 3 year fix that matured in October 2025 or my 18 month Member Exclusive bond that matured earlier this month. Perhaps I could request those via secure message though if I wanted to confirm what I suspect will be reported to HMRC.The Secure Trust ones are all present though, confirming that they are reporting interest to HMRC that has not arisen for tax in that year. So good job I will be declaring all of this correctly at the end of the term, which is up next month.1

You can request tax certificates for closed accounts from the Interest & Tax Paid page, as almost shown in the guide.masonic said:@poseidon1 Thanks, there is no chance I'd have found that Nationwide pathway without the guide.
