I am a bit confused. I assume the QR code was on the laptop/desktop computer for you to scan with your mobile? If it is displayed on the mobile to be scanned by the desktop that is a no go here as my desktop doesn't have a camera!

This has not hit me yet, though when I initially try to log in I am presented with a very long list of possible ways to do so which is very confusing. There is an option to save your choice but I think that is by a cookie and for security reasons I always delete HSBC cookies.

For me the QR code is displayed on an app on my phone to be scanned with an app on my phone (i.e. impossible to do).

But if I want to log on my HSBC account on the laptop, it shows the QR code on the laptop screen to be scanned with the mobile. That does work for me, although from reading previous posts I think other people have had problems with this.

Scan a QR code with your phone on your phone? Crackers.

One of the CS agents suggested I use another phone to see whether the QR code log in worked. Install HSBC internet banking on someone else's phone and add my personal identity and security details? Nah, you're alright.

Anyway, still waiting for the app update. Last was February 3rd so I'd imagine any time soon.

Happy to report that the HSBC app on my Android phone updated overnight and I can now access my account on my laptop/desktop.

I assumed the updated version would give an option to use a six digit app generated number for desktop log on (as before) or the QR code. But it appears it's still the QR code. However, it worked within a second of me scanning the QR code rather than timing out after 3 minutes.

Sadly, this didn't work for me despite updating the app manually, BUT I just saw a post on another forum saying that if you go to hsbc.co.uk/security you can log in the old way with your user ID by generating a six-digit code via the mobile app - the way it used to work. Just did it and it works!!

Yes, saw that too. Over on Reddit.

Try restarting your phone. It worked for someone else over there. I'm not sure if that HSBC security link will be there forever if they're determined to get everyone using the QR code.

    Hope this helps...

I wasn't able to login using the daft QR code. The App was updated, restarted my tablet etc.

On my Windows PC I tend to use dark mode and windows 'high contrast' ( activate it by using Alt+Shift+Prt Screen). However, I turned off high contrast and the QR code scan will now work. Might be worth checking for anybody still having issues.

P.s. I think HSBC are becoming so crap (in general) that it will soon be time to bid them goodbye.

You can still login on a PC by generating a secure code with the mobile app and using the previous login screen i.e. by tagging /security to the end of the normal banking URL

    hsbc.co.uk/security

i.e. by tagging /security to the end of the normal banking URL.

Why they don't show this as an option is beyond me. I was trying to login with the QR code for an hour before resorted to some old paperwork.

I just thought I'd try logging into my account on PC for the first time in months. Chose my username and birthdate option, was told to open my app and scan the QR code - it worked straight away. Maybe I'm in the minority
