  • I used to get free yeast from Asda but last time I asked was told that they had started charging for it, 42p for about 150g.
I split it into 10 portions each of which is enough for a loaf and then froze it.
Never had any problems using frozen yeast.

  • I make my own bread and doughnuts and need fresh yeast. When I couldn't find any in Asda and asked an assistant I was told that it is not their policy to sell it. However I was directed to the bakery area where I was given it free. I've been getting my free yeast from various Asda stores for a few years now!
  • Fresh yeast is available free at Tesco bakery areas as well.
  • thanks
  • People used to come and ask us in Tesco for yeast too. Have to say, I thought it was a bit cheeky when we sold it and people would ask for it free, but they baker would always give them it. Handy if places like Asda don't sell it too!

Any reason why this give this away for free?
  • Any idea why they dont sell it??

I guess it's probably because its a main ingredient for making alcohol and kids could easily do it? (not that they'd bother when they can buy alcohol so easily anyway lol)

    Might be another reason though?
  • They sell packets of dried yeast:o

Maybe they don't stock the fresh cos it goes off quickly?
