Ok, I have absolutely no intentions of making my own bread, I much prefer Warby's meduim ... so why do I feel the urge to get some free yeast???
I don't need it, I won't use it, I don't know what to do with it, but for some strange reason, as it's free...
I WANT SOME!!!!!!!!!!
These boards are taking over my life ... I need a lie down!0 -
Hi, thanks for this  . I stopped baking bread because I found it ever more difficult to get fresh yeast [dried just doesn't give the same results IMO] Will hot foot to local Asdas and ask the Bakery pretty please with a cherry on top could I have some yeast. OH getting excited, fresh bread, chelsea buns, rum babas, not forgetting doughnuts & real pizza.0

Friend keeps yeast in freezer and works fine afterwards
We make all own bread in machine where it is much easier to use the dried yeast but when making by hand the fresh yeast is very good

Another tip:
If you've got more than one dog and one of them eat's the other's poo (very common!!!), feed the dog that's not eating poo a little bit of yeast every day. The poo eating should stop quite quickly!!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
The reason supermarkets give free yeast is that it is illegal to sell it, it is a live culture and cannot be retailed in a supermarket. There is question as to whether a pet shop could though! I've never been refused free yeast in any supermarket including Tesco, Sainsbury, Safeway and Asda.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

When you want a whole block of yeast they do make a charge. Don't know what the live culture bit makes any difference they sell yoghurts with live culture as well

I worked as an ASDA baker, and as a word of warning this yeast is concentrated so be carefull what u add!Success is a journey, not a destination. So stop running. :cool:0

errmm this may sound daft but why are they giving it away free??Has it already been used and the rule is one use for Asda bakers only or something?Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

Yes, fresh yeast can be frozen. But I tried asking for it at my local Tesco and they looked at me like I had landed from another planet:oPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I work for asda (bakery) and i can confirm that we do have to give yeast out at the customers request. I beleive its the law that we have to do, something to do with anybody being able to see/test/use the same yeast as we use. Not 100% sure just know we can not refuse to give any out. I beleive we can charge the customer if we wanted to, but ASDA's nice
And its nothing to do with bread being made for 1 day life. Oh and for you guys who jsut want the free stuff for no use what so ever, ask for some bread crums! We give those out aswell, i once asked a customer what they did with them and said she used them for mince pies!
