'WASPI' women latest: Government to review decision to refuse compensation

Having racked my brains for when I first knew of the raising of retirement age I have now recalled it must have been mid 90s, so 1995 sound right, in my early 40s. So a 20 year advance notice. I was the only female employee in a small engineering company & the subject came up at lunchtime in the canteen when I was asked how I felt about it. I said it was a good idea. Although the men mooted that maybe THEY should be made equal by having their SPA reduced to 60. But none of us took this seriously in view of the increasing rise in how long people were living. People who did want to retire early always had the option of private pension arrangements until SPA kicked in & I know several people who did just that.4

The question came out in the court case and is referenced earlier in this thread. They did know about it but did not / did not remember receiving specific personal information from HMG / DWP so need compensating. Every time they get knocked back they find another angle. The ones I feel sorry for re those that are funding these fairly well off middle class women going on jollies up and down the countrygerman_keeper said:
Whilst my gut reaction to seeing yet another thread on this topic was akin to the post above by Pollycat, I must admit I think this is quite an interesting point and not one I can recall reading previously. Delivered a tad tongue in cheek I suspect but I would be interested to know if this has ever been asked of the people running this campaign.Grumpy_chap said:I am confused as to how these women who, apparently, did not know about the change to the SP age because they did not receive a letter ever knew that there was a SP in the first place and the original SP age that they were not told was changing. Did these people receive a letter ever to tell them that there was a SP and the SP age? I am certain that I never received such a letter. In the absence of such a letter, it must have come as a wonderful surprise to these women that they suddenly received a SP which they had not been told about in a letter.

All the comments about 'I didn't get a letter' or should have known anyway from the media are totally inconsequential.
Nothing anyone on here says will matter a jot.
Stick to the facts, simply they are having another look at it. Something may happen or something may not.
Nothing more to see here!1 -

What's the point of this thread and the endless comments? The first post stated the facts and that's all that was needed.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1

For me, these WASPI/WASPE threads really do often show the range of human assumptions, the nastiness, mockery, sympathy, empathy, ignorance, selfishness, criticism etc. Clearly there is a spectrum of people impacted, from the first class champagne drinkers to the truly naive, deserving and financially dependent types and every other type as well.
We shouldn't just lump them all as the same to make our opinion on the subject arguable.
To me there are a number of people that in an ideal world deserve financial recompense, and a number who absolutely don't. Unfortunately we have to have the same rule for all and I agree that no compensation should be given to anyone, but let's not paint them all as the same.
No wonder these threads get closed2 -

From comments from actual WASPI women over the years i.e. those affected by the change BUT with sympathy for those women genuinely financially disadvantaged (and I'm one of the lucky ones with private pension provision), we would have welcomed some sort of financial help for them.Cus said:For me, these WASPI/WASPE threads really do often show the range of human assumptions, the nastiness, mockery, sympathy, empathy, ignorance, selfishness, criticism etc. Clearly there is a spectrum of people impacted, from the first class champagne drinkers to the truly naive, deserving and financially dependent types and every other type as well.

But not for the first class travelling, champagne swilling women who have fully paid up mortgages.
Some WASPI women have never lumped all these women together.
Although successive governments have.
And yes. No wonder these threads get closed
