O2's hiking its prices – but you can use this to haggle down your costs
O2 is notifying customers that they can leave their contracts penalty-free because it's hiking its existing price rise. Up to 15.6 million O2 customers will see their bills rise by 40% more than they were told – something MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) founder Martin Lewis is up in arms about.

Hi All,
If I leave O2 and still have outstanding costs on my hand set, I understand I still pay the regular monthly fees for the hand set.
Is there any way to confirm what this monthly fee will be?
Does the annual cost increase still apply to the hand set fees I have to pay or is that only on the airtime costs.0 -
Hi JRB14me,
Assuming you have access to the My O2 app. you should be able to go to your account and then check your 'View Device Plan', this will show details of your current device (Make, model, etc.) along with what your current settlement amount is, as well as your existing monthly payment amount.
No, your device payments will not be affected by forthcoming airtime price increase next April.0 -
Hi All
Following O2's price increase to £2.50 next April from £1.80 I phoned them yesterday and (nicely) told them what I thought about it, and said I was mindful to leave. I have a SIM only contract, paying £12.99 for 30GB of data, plus the usual unlimited texts and messages. After some discussion they offered me a new 24 month contract at £8 per month for 35GB of data, texts & messages as usual. A worthwhile call; I've saved almost £5 a month, and got 5GB more data. I had to do very little haggling.0 -
I refuse to pay the price increase from April 2026!
I will happily pay the device plan but tempered to leave o2 due to price rises & no way to call someone in the U.K fed up of talking to someone in India1 -
I just left and went with Smarty @£8 a month for 50gb data. It doesn’t really get any better than that does it?0

That’s a very good deal!
I can get unlimited everything for £24 with EE as have broadband so might have to do that1 -
Do you need unlimited?
I would say 50gb data would be more than enough for 99% of people. A £192 a year saving is not to be sniffed at.0 -
I don’t but that’s a very good deal but as I say! I CBA to call 02 & be put through to India absolutely hate it! Either I do it in the o2 store or not at all unless there is a specific way to get through to the U.K!ididgetwhereiamtoday said:Do you need unlimited?

my contract runs till October 2027 & I refuse to pay the airtime plan price increase! Next year my device plan & airtime plan split1 -
Remember Martins advice that you need to look beneath the headline price at what it includes and the service.ididgetwhereiamtoday said:Do you need unlimited?

A £192 a year saving is not to be sniffed at.I pay EE £29 a month for unlimited calls, texts and data; inclusive EU and Rest of World Roaming, Apple One (iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade), Network Priority, 5G SA, Apple Watch service. I save hundreds compared to a cheap deal and buying everything separately.0 -
