Getting the right size upvc door handle.

So our door handle went knackered.
Learned that there's different sorts & so took the appropriate measurements to make sure I got the correct one.

Fitted it & it fits & is as it was sold, except it's different....

With the old one, the barrel was flush with the handle. This one is obviously 'deeper' and so the end of the barrel is inside the door handle casing.

Problem is - this measurement doesn't appear to be part of any listing. It's as though they're all universal, yet they're clearly not.

Second problem is - while there's plenty shops where I live, the powers that be thought it be a great idea to take out all these kind of shops 1 by 1 so now it's a fair travel to anywhere that may sell door handles. The nearest place I can think of is a far away Screwfix & it's obviously not the place you can just wander around having a look & I doubt they'd be taking too kindly to me saying can you just keep opening box after box until you find one that not only is the correct measurement for holes at the rear but is a shallower profile too.

Are there many different types or is there a limited amount of depths to these?

Advice on speeding up how to get the correct one, or is it really going to be a case of hopping online & messaging sellers if they can find me a specific depth handle?

Manufacturer websites often do show a full spec drawing of the handle but as you say the likes of Screwfix etc only show the basic dimensions.  That handle doesn't look particularly thick so that may be the problem, the old one was the oddball.

I'll do a bit more digging then.

Curious what you mean by this.

Since the image doesn't even show a handle, only the baseplate or whatever you'd call it. Or is that what you mean - the baseplate thing doesn't look deep?

I imagine the last handle probably came with the door. When we moved in everything was flush. I obviously changed the locks & everything lined up perfectly still.

But as I say, I'll have to keep digging I suppose.

There is a section for uPVC handles.

What was the make of the old handles?

    Thanks for the link.

As for the make, I couldn't honestly tell you. White ones is about as much info as I can give you.

I think I may still have them in the shed actually because I'm a hoarder. I'd need to have a look but I don't think they were stamped with a name or anything.

And I'm totally guessing they're the doors originals. They were in place when we bought the house that's all I know.

One of our window handles went this weekend and Google lens identified the make and model first go. A search of the window lock key confirmed the result was right. Might be worth a try.
  • The handle backplates (I’m sure that’s not the correct term) do vary in thickness as well as width and length.

I’ve used Handlestore a few times and they’re very good. Their website shows the dimensions of most of the handles they sell so you should be able to find one that fits.

I'd have never even considered that. Thanks for the tip.

Can you not change the euro profile lock cylinder for a larger size to suit new handles 2 minute job one screw to remove it and do the reverse to fit it.

I did think that too but the OP has already changed the locks, and for good quality 3* anti snap ones looking at the picture. A replacement handle might be cheaper.
