And you dont have to be using the bath or shower - for the pipework to spring a leak - and risk flowing all over an unattended electrical extenion lead socket and plug.
I guess that rules out using them in utility rooms and kitchens then
Extension leads yes I would agree, especially  if left for a length of time.

It would be interesting to hear from those who do use a extension lead for what we are discussing whether they fully uncoil it or only run it out enough to reach the portable appliance?

Sorry that was a bit of a low blow, as you can be criticised whatever the answer.

In fairness the lead is not left out, and the dehumidifier is not left in the bathroom when not in active use.

There's a socket in the hallway on the same side as the bathroom door. The dehumidifier lead plugs into that via a large gap under the bathroom door. It's not a trip hazard. Given neither of us is in the bathroom when it's on, I fail to see how I am being in anyway irresponsible.
So the bathroom is not hermetically sealed when the dehumidifier is in use, so why not not leave it in the hallway with the door ajar.Presumably less of a trip hazard as well.

As has been stated before the regulations for bathrooms are there for a reason, finding excuses to circumvent them is unwise.

For me the dehumidifier is then blocking the hall outside the bathroom - so is more of a hazard.

I can stand it just inside the bathroom with the door open, but it's then in the bathroom.

My sister contacted Meaco directly as she's so confused. Explained that her main room in her cottage is around 13C to 17 C and was told to buy an Arete Two.

Seriously? Everything I've read indicates that a desiccant works best at these temperatures. What the flipping flip!?  :'(

They've guided you to the model with all the bells and whistles.
The published extraction rate data is very similar to the cheaper ABC, which I have. I think compression would be fine at the top end of this range, but at the bottom end I find mine spends a lot of time defrosting, so I use an alternative desiccant one.
