I'm in the same boat and would struggle with where to start if I lost my number. I know it originated via Orange but couldn't guess at when, there doesn't appear to be any way of telling though?flaneurs_lobster said:
Tad inconvenient? Think a lot of people might find it rather more than that. Most bank/BS account access still involves SMS (unfortunately) or a call. Registering a new number is probably going to take days.jeffhodgson1 said:Yes. Mobile number instantly gone. No warning. Staff in o2 shop tried to get it back but no joy.
Not a major problem as new sim ordered to arrive tomorrow, just a tad inconvenient for 24hrs or so.
WhatsApp won't work.
And that's before you consider your personal/business contacts that have that number that you will have to contact.
I've had my number for well over 20 years, not something I want to lose unless I decide to make it so.0 -
Let's hope we don't need to scrabble around for the origins of our numbers but you might try sticking your prefix (07nnn) into here https://www.ukphoneinfo.com/locatorJSmithy45AD said:

it doesn't claim to be definitive but the networks/dates look right for the couple of numbers I've tried.1 -
Ahh, cheers. It got the Orange bit right, I'm not sure what "Ofcom's last recorded change for this number range was February 1999." actually means?flaneurs_lobster said:

It's just the last time that OFCOM issued a bunch of numbers including your one. No-one actually owns a phone number (landline or otherwise) but OFCOM has the job of allocating ranges to the telecoms operators.JSmithy45AD said:
