Vat is an EU tax that replaced uk equivalents - purchase tax - a variable rate tgat was hijed on some goods - then commonly referred to as at one stage as a luxury tax.

Heating in winter is not a luxury - it's an essential - more so for many elderly, sick and disabled.

There is no moral justification for taxing it.

Other than to avoid taxing other things like incone and real luxuries properly.

After ww2 luxury tax reached a peak of iirc 66% on most expensive cars.  Let's apply tge same to large suvs and supercars now. Say starting at 50k for ice and bev vehicles.  Rather than giving folk upto £3750 tk purchase an ev  - a perfect example of net zero dogma driving this govts policy "choices".

And vat is only a fraction of govg policy costs on our bills - come Jan the policy line in the df dd cap will have increased £79 / 50% in less than 2 years to £236.  Net zero (nuclear) and social costs driving half that increase - £38 extra - in just 3 months.  Wiping out wholesale cost savings that should have lowered bills into winter if not for this govts "choices".
