EDF have changed Economy 7 times

Thanks. If I haven't gone cross-eyed, and adding in the zeroes that sometimes get dropped, we have PC 02, MTC 038 and LLFC 30. That brings up just one entry (out of 300,000 in my big table!) showing that the SSC ('Standard Settlement Configuration') is 0183, giving these timings (called 'Time Pattern Regimes', TPR):pattymac33 said:For Ildhund the numbers are: 2. 38. 30

These times match your experience (offpeak 00:30-07:30); the actual times will be a bit later than advertised because of a built-in delay (usually 1-15 minutes) in the meter which ensures that not everyone in town's storage heaters all switch on at the same instant in the middle of the night, which could overwhelm transformers and substations.
That said, all this is in a state of flux across the entire domestic electricity supply sector at the moment as a new - allegedly fairer - way of charging suppliers for the electricity they buy from generators. The S panel on your next bill may look different. Whether you're part of another experiment by EDF with managing peak/offpeak accounts will hopefully come to light as the complaint you should have raised progresses through the system.I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.2 -
Thanks for that clear statement of instruction. I will convey it to them tomorrow.
I'll report back.
In response to QrizB - Thanks. yes there is another fuse box below the shelf for all of the other circuits. (Actually only 3 NSH are hard wired, the other 2 we just set with external timers)1 -

For your interest here's a pic - I could set the 2 (non hard wired) NSH to the current incorrect tarriff times but dont think my elderly heaters would take in enough energy, with the broken up hours, to give out any meaningful heat.
If chasing up EDF and threatening the Ombudsman doesnt get a speedy resolution its an option to consider if it gets colder.

In response to Ildhund
Your reply came through out of sequence.
Thankyou so much for your input. It shows that EDF should have me on those settings. If doing an "experiment" should have advised me.
Ammo for my complaint to ombudsman if needed.
I will see what the promised "plan of action" is, promised this week.1 -
Hi Patty,pattymac33 said:I have a property with Economy 7 as my only heating (since 1991!)
I'm on a standard variable E7 tariff with EDF.
A smart meter was installed in Feb 2024 anticipating the RTS switch off.
It has worked perfectly, with 5 night storage heaters receiving low rate electricity between 00.30 - 07.30 (GMT) for 16 months.
But, in June 2025 mysteriously my meter settings were remotely changed with off peak hours now 08.00-11.00, 17.00-18.00, 22.00-00.00 and 01.30-02.30 (BST)
My hard wired night storage heaters still adhere to the 'proper' overnight settings and are taking electricity from 01.30- 08.30 (BST) but of course I am now being charged for 1 hour off peak and 6 hours of 'full fat' electricity.
EDF metering have been involved since August and have mentioned that the "local network dictates the off peak hours." The timings are difficult to rationalise for E7 as it is almost exclusively a tariff used for night storage heaters, requiring a solid 7 hour feed.
Surely if the hour settings were changed remotely by EDF in June they can just change them back?
This seems a challenging concept to them....they seem to keep suggesting that the network sets the hours not EDF.
Do others have any similar issues or useful suggestions for me in battling through this?
Both are true ... the supplier sets the meter peak/off-peak times according to the Time Pattern Regime for the Standard Settlement Configuration ID but technically does this by means of a command from the network, being the Data Communications Company (DCC).
It would be interesting to know what your Meter Timeswitch Code was prior to June and afterwards, the new format Supply No (MPAN) which replaces the MTC with SSC started this month ...
Your current off-peak hours are weird, as a matter of interest how did you determine the switch times?2 -
Hi, the time switch code on my March 25
bill is the same - 2 38 30
Yes, the timings are wierd and of course that begs the question of whether the meter might have a fault. Whilst I was away in June there had been a power cut as the cooker time was flashing. But i doubt it...
I noticed that the timings were 'off' because i saw a new reading on the right hand side of the handset display saying 'rate change' and a green or red cross beside a bar graph of one hour countdown - either to higher (red)or lower (green)rate
I cross checked this with physically interrogating the meter itself to show the "active tariff" and over 48 hours mapped exactly what the "active tariffs" were on the meter display and when they changed.

Just out of interest, what is the name of the tariff stated on your bills?0
-
The tariff showing on the bill over the last 2 years is Standard Variable
Next rows down itemise the price charged for 'unit rate standard" and "unit rate night.'
In older bills - I have one from May 2023, it is referenced as Standard (variable)E71 -
Curious as that looks like an off hub (T1 or T2 ) antennae - but still located in the meter cabinet. How reliable is your connection to your supplier for meter readings / updates ?The meter itself is a standard single element 5 port - so on board ALCS for your storage heating - and judging by the 20A ratings - and the grey meter tails - one from 5th port labelled LLL at the meter - I suspect the CU shown if for the restricted cicuits - possibly including an off peak hot water immersion feed (as above cannot read any annotations).0
