Meals/drinks denied on last day of All inclusive Holiday!

It's very common in AI resorts - for my sins I've been to many in both Spain (mainland) and the Canaries.
In fact I can't think of the last time I was allowed to eat / drink after check-out.1 -
We're going all-inclusive skiing in January, they've made it very clear on the website, I suspect not all sites do this!
"Included meals start with dinner on the first evening and end with breakfast on the last morning."1 -
I came back from Majorca a few months ago. AI with the kids. After we checked out our pickup wasn’t until 6. We were allowed full use of all facilities until we left. They had baggage storage and showers for us to use too.1

"Included meals start with dinner on the first evening and end with breakfast on the last morning."it would be great if when booking AI the tour opperators made this clear.we've not had this problem at other resortswhat annoys me most is that we ate/drank nothing on our "first day" as we arrived just after midnight !0 -
Presumably this was a package holiday?Splitrim said:

When a friend was staying at a very expensive AI place and was due to land very late at night they simply booked the first night at the airport hotel and went to the AI mid morning the next day, given the hotel was over £1k per night it didnt seem worth paying that just for a bed.0 -
Not a frequent AI holidayer but I've had some hotels with extensive facilities, thats spas, pools, etc plus one AI resort. They've always specifically said you must check out of the room by the usual time eg [11am] but they'd reprogram your key card to have access to the other facilities for the rest of the day or until [some evening time]. That's even when the flights were separately booked not in a package.0

It's interesting that many people do tend to think this way only in relation to long stay overseas leisure holidays.Splitrim said:michele-p said:We're going all-inclusive skiing in January, they've made it very clear on the website, I suspect not all sites do this!

If you booked one night with dinner bed and breakfast at a Hilton in a business park just outside of Slough for a business trip, would you roll up back at the hotel the following evening 10 hours after you had checkced out and sit yourself down in the dining room with the expectation of free food? In reality, the situation is no different.

Just checked out of an AI in Sharm. They cut our wristbands off at 11am but said just tell the waiter your room number which we did.
No probs at all still enjoying the F&B til we left at 5pm.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
Of course it's different. If you book a package holiday the tour operator and hence the hotel will know your arrival and departure times and any big hotel should be able to cater for late/early arrivals & departures eg by allowing late checkout as they know they'll have late checkins. It's the thing that got me first time I went on a package holiday. A package should mean accommodation (and any AI etc) is provided for the duration of the holiday. Otherwise it's not really a package.vacheron said:

In that case the issue needs to be taken up with package operator not the hotel as the package operator is the only one who is guaranteed to know when the customers flights arrive and depart. The hotel will not know your arrival times unless the package operator tells them as that information makes no real difference as far as the hotel are concerned.zagfles said:

I don't see any harm in the package operator providing an extended meal option, but I would also expect this to be at an additional cost as not everyone may need or want it.
For as long as I can remember (I have been holidaying abroad since the 1980s) every hotel charges by the night, which can includes an evening meal and a breakfast, and lunch (if full board / AI) when two consicutive nights are booked. This is how it has been for decades.
If hotels wish to extend your stay as a courtesy, then that is entirely their choice, if this is a deal breaker, a quick e-mail to the hotel to confirm before booking would avoid any dissappointment.
