Meals/drinks denied on last day of All inclusive Holiday!

We're just wondering how many forumites have experienced this?
We recently went to Majorca for 7 nights all-inclusive with one of the major opperators.
Flights were late in the afternoon (suited us because of only using 5 days holiday allowance), and by the time the transfer was complete it was almost midnight, no big deal straight to bed and up early the next day.
We were asked to check out at 11.00 am, no problem we dont take a lot of luggage
But when we went to hand back the room keys I was asked for my wristband (proof of All-inclusive) thus denying us meals/drinks on the last day.
As we were not being collected until around 7pm were expecting to have lunch then lounge by the pool until we needed to change for the return flight
So effectively we only had 19 "mealtimes" rather than the 21 we thought we had paid for!
Are hotels really making so little money that they have to deny guests meals , despite have not served anything to them on the day the booking started?

Fairly standard that all inclusive facilities are only offered between check in and checkout times.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Once you check out you are no longer an occupant of the hotel, but some hotels do allow later check out for a fee.
My wife paid about £35 in the summer which allowed her and my daughter to remain in the room and take advantage of all all inclusive facilities until 6pm.

to be honest we've stayed at several hotels in the canaries and have checked out of the room at 11am (understand they need to clean it etc) , but have been allowed to eat and drink as necessary until we get picked up.0 -
Very common (to the point of it being almost universal) practice.
Almost all hotels will offer dinner on the evening of arrival and breakfast on the morning of departure.
On arrival, if you let the hotel know you are arriving late, they will usually arrange some food in your room to compensate for the lack of that evening's dinner. The last hotel we stayed at in February we missed dinner but asked if they could put something together for us, and they had the restaurant set a late table for us an they gathered together a nice selection of cheese, cold cuts and deserts.
On departure, once you have checked out of a hotel you have no more entitlement to use their facilities (including meals) than any other person on the street. Some hotels will allow you use their services as an unofficial courtesy (or for a charge), but we never assume that to be the case.
I'm sure plenty of people still grab drinks or dinner, especially in places where resident checking is sparse. We often wonder how many people actually walk in to some hotels off the street (or from another hotel) to use the restaurants or pool when they aren't even a resident?

• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0 -
We’ve stayed at quite a few all inclusive, only one has tried to charge us for arriving before check in at 3pm or if we want to stay after 11 am check out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm not a fan of AI but then also not a fan of fly & flop type holidays either. Certainly I'd agree that the norm in my experience has been that the AI is for the duration that you are checked in at the hotel so if you turn up at 8am on check in day you dont get breakfast etc and similarly once you check out the ride ends.
Some there is a fairly modest fee for an early check in and/or late check out but you need to ask for these as early as possible so that it aligns with the prior/next guests leaving/arrival.
Certainly some do allow it to go on, particularly those that are AI only. For those that do both AI and non-AI it gets more messy verifying if you are entitled to AI or not given you could have checked out and the next person checked in on a non-AI basis so when they check the room it states you arent AI0 -

Next time, you'll have to grab extra stuff at breakfast to make yourselves lunch. Probably best to ask the day before what the rules are after checking out0
