Manchester Airport APCOA fine incoming

Hi All,

I've recently started driving for Uber (3 months). Ive made dozens of trips to Manchester Airport and paid every single drop off and pick up fee. However, on Friday just gone I had two drop offs and one pick up and completely forgot to pay these ones. I realised yesterday (Sunday), logged in, but the visits had been removed from their system, so I was unable to pay. I called their office this morning, but just got an automated message advising me to wait for their correspondence through the post. I know I'm late paying these ones but I'm trying to pay and am now being prevented from doing so.

A further issue, I rent the car from a taxi leasing company and therefore it will be them that get the 3 letters for this. A possible total of £300 in fines. They will then advise the company it was myself driving.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would personally tell the taxi leasing firm just to email the PCNs to you on receipt , you can then appeal them in their name (using the standard airport appeal text) and get them cancelled
    Easy route

I don't believe they are bound by law to name who was driving the car. My daughter had this a few months ago. We are just not telling them who was driving and they cannot do anything.
It's just a way for the parking firm to make £300, it's a scam. Will you be paying £300?

In my daughter's parking fine case, she received 2 £60(£100) fines; having read that the maximum fine is £100 and then Manchester Airport gave her 2 fines of £60, they cancelled one.
I don't believe that is lawful.

Of course its lawful. Very easy to beat
  • As per your advice I spoke to the taxi leasing company and asked them to forward me the letters, should they receive them, which are asking for them to name the driver.

They agreed to do this, but today (3rd November) I have received one letter from APCOA advising me of the fine of £100, reduced to £60 if I pay within 14 days of the date shown on the letter (28th October, already 6 days ago).

Its irrelevant now, but I just spoke to the taxi leasing company again, and they have apologised as i should not have been told that the letters would be sent on to me as they get many letters a week and will always just name the driver.

What can I do now please, as I have been named as a driver.

It's better that it's in your name. The lease company have named you as the lessee (they won't know who was driving - guesses aren't enough). Anyway ..... now you have the charge, deal with it in your name using the Airport appeal, then await your cancellation a few days later. Simples.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
