I know a lady who is an Evri courier and she literally runs up peoples driveways to drop parcels. She claims that if she walked she wouldn't earn enough money in a day to make it pay. I think she is paid something shocking like 40p per parcel delivered so I can understand why they drop and run.
I don't have a driveway only a short path of pathing stones from the road, it is left outside the only door entrance to the house which is the correct place.  The doorbell is within arms reach of the doormat!

Get yourself a parcel box, it makes life so much easier
If they can't take 1 second to ring a bell, how are they going to spend 30 seconds to open and lock a parcel box?

It is the symptom of a race to the bottom with carriers competing for the lowest price.  Most buyers will opt for the cheapest price offere and the pressure is passed down to drivers who are paid poorly and expected to dropped off more parcels than time allows.

Some carriers' systems send a text or email to confirm delivery.  As lots of us are glued to our phones this is almost as good as ringing a bell.

I've noticed there's a tendency to just leave the parcel at the doorway then walk away.  This despite having a notice on the door asking couriers to ring.  I know they are working against time, but it only takes a split second. I don't even expect them to wait of me coming to the door.

I can't find any page to insert instructions for eBay couriers and possibly some other types of deliveries on the relevant site.

Edit:  By ring I don't mean ring my phone but ring the doorbell! as I've clearly stated on the notice on the door. As I've said it takes a split second.

No way.  We often have parcels left on our front doorstep, even though we have a front porch that is always open.  They literally have to open the door, drop parcel, close door.  But they prefer to leave it in full view of passers by, sometimes in the rain.  Weirdly, the ones who leave it in the porch often ring the doorbell and walk away. I'm guessing to alert us to the fact that something has been safely delivered.  But the ones who leave it outside don't even ring the bell so it can be out there for hours

They don't have to open and lock anything just simply lift the lid.  My couriers don't seem to find it overly hard to do

I've also been a multiple victim of the "abandon the parcel on the doorstep, in full view of the street, and don't even bother to ring the doorbell" delivery. This is despite having a parcel box, a wall to the side of the porch which would conceal the parcel, and a doorbell - all of which can be reached from the doormat where the parcel has been abandoned!.
If I get a "how did we do?" follow-up email, I always give it 1 Star, and explain the problem. This occasionally has had positive results, for a while, as have complaints to Amazon Customer Services.
I believe that the only long-term solution will be a standardised parcel box (just like almost every property in the country has a letter box). I'm surprised that new-builds don't have them yet.

I have a parcel shed next to my front door with a note on the door saying leave parcels in there. All my work parcels come labelled as leave in shed. So many get left leaning against the shed  :(

Depends on the parcel box.. many are lockable so you leave it open, but the courier should insert item and then spin the numbers to lock.

Regardless, still no LESS effort than reaching your arm to press a bell and dashing immediately.

Hate it when that happens - I've had it with food delivery too!! Just left outside and I only realise when I check the app to track where my food is!

I've had some deliveries like this.....!

Deliveries seem to be getting worse. Ordered some stuff from Amazon, delivered faster than expected because I
cancelled prime and choose the free delivery option.  Knock on the door and by the time we got to the door the driver
was back in their van and the packaged was sitting in a puddle by the bin.

This included electronic devices which I would have assumed needed a verification code but seems not.

Carboard box was a soggy mess and even though the items inside had their own plastic coating it was obviously
not waterproof as the items boxes showed signs of damp also.  All in the space of 20 seconds?

Ordered some calibrated test equipment some months back and we knew that delivery arrived when it bounced off
    the front door!
