Ooh! Escort that fellow off the MSE forum!greyteam1959 said:You can buy good quality brushes so cheaply now they are not worth cleaning.
Best to run a tap for ten minutes instead...0 -
You can also clean them a lot quicker and use less liquid with a spinner.
Purdy and Wooster brushes aren't cheap.1 -
Agreed. You can buy cheap brushes or good quality brushes. The two are mutually exclusive in my experience.stuart45 said:You can also clean them a lot quicker and use less liquid with a spinner.

Roller sleeves are trickier. I’ve never managed to get them clean without using gallons and gallons of water.0 -
Use a spinner on the roller sleeves as well. It's a lot quicker. Normally I wrap them in cling film until the end of the job if it's emulsion before cleaning

I use white spirit no problem cleaning oil based paint

Thanks everyone for your input.
I will still look for turps (or brush cleaner) as it does a good job of cleaning paint off hands as well as brushes. Failing that it looks like buying new brushes and wearing gloves.
Thought white spirit was rubbish - am familiar with it as a paint thinner but it did nothing for cleaning brushes.0 -
You can use nitromors for cleaning brushes if the paint is too hard for turps or white spirits. Depends on how expensive the brushes are.0

Thanks. I’ll give that a go. Any particular brand/type of spinner? There seem to be a few options online.stuart45 said:Use a spinner on the roller sleeves as well. It's a lot quicker. Normally I wrap them in cling film until the end of the job if it's emulsion before cleaning

Nitromors not so great for cleaning hands though, eh? Mind you, I'm not at all sure turpentine is recommended for that either!stuart45 said:You can use nitromors for cleaning brushes if the paint is too hard for turps or white spirits. Depends on how expensive the brushes are.1 -
I've had a Purdy spinner for a few years and it's been really good. Not the cheapest on the market, but not excessively expensive for quality. I'm a bricklayer, not a painter by trade, but in recent years I've done a few paint jobs for people as they just can't get anyone else to do the work.bjorn_toby_wilde said:
