That's good that they're picking up the tab. Re your contents claim, it's in effect only been one working day up till this morning.mills705 said:Yes they agreed it without any arguments really which was good.
The loss adjustor has been Ok so far, although I did have to point out that providing us with alternate accomodation until 4 days after the baby was due was not something we were happy with. He quickly changed it to January.
I am guessing they are trying to keep their costs low in offering places that are OK for 2 people to live temporarily.
I sent my contents off on Friday and its been radio silence from him around this since then. I even asked questions around how it would be paid and next steps.0 -
There is a complexity that you may not fully appreciate...mills705 said:I am guessing they are trying to keep their costs low in offering places that are OK for 2 people to live temporarily.
As a third party you are entitled to indemnification, meaning putting back in the same financial position you were immediately before the incident. Additionally you have a legal obligation to mitigate your losses (ie make them as small as is reasonably possible). Your insurers have a legal obligation to support you in this.
As a policyholder you are entitled to whatever the policy states you are entitled to, most Home insurance goes beyond indemnification into what is technically betterment (ie you can break a 20 year old TV and receive a brand new replacement).
Whilst you may be entitled to certain things under your policy your insurer will not be able to recover these from the third party insurer which would mean it becomes a "fault" claim at the end of the day as they pay out £4k but only get £3k back from the third party insurer. "Fault" in insurance terms has nothing to do with blame but simply if they have a net outlay at the end of the day, hence why if you are involved in a hit and run and the third party remains unidentified its a fault claim.
The concept of fault isnt very developed in Home insurance compared to Motor so some will just carry on regardless, others will try harder to fulfil their obligations around mitigation etc, some will see the difference between fault and non-fault claims, others won't. Some may ignore partial recoveries others will consider partial recoveries as fault claims.0 -
Apologies Luci I meant Thursday, we chased followed up with another query on Saturday.
Only just received a reply today. Looks like its all approved without any issues after speaking with him verbally- just awaiting confirmation via email for the payment asking for my details to receive it.
As for the alt accom, I appreciate they will keep the costs down but they should not be moving you to places which are not suitable. IE 1st floor flats in a student area when you are about to bring home your first child. They should be using their common sense and acknowledging that people that live in the suburbs are not going to want to move into the city centre.
