Motor is a much more simple product and for a claim you often only have one supplier involved and at most 3. Home is much more complex and a modest claim can have many different firms involved at different stages etc. Once a loss adjuster is appointed they generally run the whole show unless they've handicapped them and require modest decisions to be played back to the insurer.mills705 said:
although car insurance I am aware the company I work for completes a call a couple of days later to ensure suppliers etc have been in touch to make sure the claim is progressing. I would have thought the insurer would follow suit.FrugaiMacDugal said:
Nener heard of insurance companies doing welfare calls, check your contract to see if it's included.mills705 said:
Our insurer has not contacted us since I rang them - not a follow up call to check on our well being etc which I thought they would do.0 -
My friend lost part of her roof at Christmas last year.
She moved to rented accommodation.
She moved back into her house in August.0 -

A few days later I had a call asking if I was sure there was no personal injury. I explained that my wife and I were absolutely fine, but they still wanted to call again "Just to be completely sure you are OK". I told them not to call me, I would call them if the situation changed.

Over 50% of claims are "fault" - they have no interest on if you are injured or not and insures will have to pay if they want to outsource them for someone else to manage.TELLIT01 said:mills705 said:although car insurance I am aware the company I work for completes a call a couple of days later to ensure suppliers etc have been in touch...Car insurance claims are often farmed out to 3rd party companies. Well after pointing out that my partner is 7.5 months pregnant he said an initial 6 weeks of alternative accom - I pushed back on it as I said if we are out the house we want stability around the birth and not moving about just before or after. They have agreed to extend until 2nd week in Jan.
He has also approved the scope of works.
Just now waiting on the accomodation supplier to find us somewhere suitable given what is going on.

Throughout all this, how's your neighbour doing, did you reach out to him/her?What about the new car, was it scratched or a write off?0

Their vehicle had an Ecall function which he ignored. My pregnant partner spoke to the lady and they dispatched the policy/ ambulance.
They were sent to hospital for cursory checks and returned that evening. I spoke to the driver the day of and he seemed ok but shook up. The passenger had black eyes from the impact, not 100% sure they were expecting to move as it was a reversing impact.
The vehicle was a small new MG hybrid. It looked written off to me - The back end was completely broken up and the petrol tank was damaged as there was a very obvious smell of petrol after the incident.
The police advised he would be prosecuted following interview for careless driving - not 100% sure if this has happened or not as not spoken to the police since.
They came over on Sunday and asked for our insurance details and they provided ours. They were apologetic about what had happened.2 -
As of Friday we are in alternate accomodation. We were offered through a supplier 1st floor flats and another one closer to home but on a main road with 0 parking. Great when you are expecting your first child in several weeks!
We found an Air BnB which was more expensive but met our needs better. Its a house that has parking, closeish to family and able to not adjust our lives too much.
We also have a start date for the buildings work and hopefully a finish date. We submitted our contents claim on Thursday but still waiting an email on next steps for that as it went to the loss adjustor. Along with how to make a claim for the garden element which has been destroyed by the vehicle reversing over it.0 -
I hope you settle into your temporary home well, in time for the baby's arrival.mills705 said:As of Friday we are in alternate accomodation. Has the insurance agreed to pay for the higher cost of the Airbnb?0 -
Yes they agreed it without any arguments really which was good.
The loss adjustor has been Ok so far, although I did have to point out that providing us with alternate accomodation until 4 days after the baby was due was not something we were happy with. He quickly changed it to January.
I am guessing they are trying to keep their costs low in offering places that are OK for 2 people to live temporarily.
I sent my contents off on Friday and its been radio silence from him around this since then. I even asked questions around how it would be paid and next steps.1
