Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Christmas day scheme was n the same category as the 25 hours category and it was only the 'reduce and earn' sessions you needed to opt out of if you did it with octopus?

I'm not with octopus myself so I'm going on my family members understanding that the reduce and earn was a demand flexibility scheme but the others are from uSwitch themselves.

Can I sign up to the Christmas day offer if I opted out of the power hours?
    Yes.

I opted out of the power hours as I was under the impression you could only be opted into one scheme and I am already opted in to the Octopus free  electric scheme - made a whole 25p over 15 sessions 🙄
That's a shame; you could have been in both.

Can I opt out of the Octopus so I can do the Uswitch offer as obviously better for me?
You can opt out of the Octopus scheme but I don't think you need to.

When I clicked to activate on the Uswitch app it brings up the message I have previously opted out and asks me to activate again to take part again.
Which offer are you trying to activate? The free Christmas Day scheme or "reduce and earn"?

Yes, power hours are different from Reduce and Earn (which is the one where you can only be registered with one supplier/provider).  From the app info:

"Can I sign up to this if I'm enrolled into an energy earning scheme with another provider?

Yes, you can be enrolled in free electricity on Christmas Day - and other campaigns through Power Hours - while also being enrolled in an energy saving scheme with another provider.

However, when you sign up to Power Hours, you'll be automatically enrolled in our Reduce and Earn sessions, which are a part of the NESO Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) scheme.

You can only be registered with one NESO DFS scheme at a time. If you’re enrolled in multiple NESO DFS schemes when a session takes place, there's a chance you'll be disqualified from earning money in both until you have opted out of all but one.

Once you opt out of your other scheme, you should be able to rejoin Reduce and Earn sessions by the next day.."

So Power Hours - including free electricity on Christmas Day - fine.  You just have to opt out of Reduce and Earn if you want to stay with your supplier or other current provider.

If the Christmas day offer works like the £25/25hour Power Hours scheme (which I think it does) then it shouldn't conflict with any other scheme - it's the Reduce and Earn sessions in Uswitch which are part of the NESO Demand Flexibility Scheme, for which you can only be signed up with one company at a time. Octopus savings sessions are also part of the NESO scheme.

When joining Power Hours for the first time you are automatically enrolled in the Reduce and Earn Sessions too, but you can opt out of those - and opt back in again at any time, so in theory you can swap back and forth between providers depending on who is offering a good scheme, as long as they're not both happening at the same time...

Edited to say: Apologies, for some reason I missed all the replies above before posting, questions already answered!

Is the free Christmas Day offer by invite only?  Can't seem to find it on the USwitch app.  Maybe they thought I used too much free elecy for the power hours scheme?

I found it.  I should have clicked on the app some more before asking here lol.

I was about to do the same!  Obviously hoping to dampen demand by hiding it away.

It's limited to a certain number of applications. I haven't seen any marketing about it either. The 25 hours offer was all over Facebook etc.

Funds in account on 11th December.
  • Thanks for the tip off about the free Christmas day electric - I've opted in! That should deal with everything from the turkey to the roast potatoes if the 8am - 4pm timings are correct!

  • It now says 8-4 everywhere, so that's a nice chunk of the day.

My sister had to opt back in, like previous poster did. She did the 25 hours but is an octopus user so she had opted out of reduce and earn sessions. Weird.
