Not many realise ... probably because it's not true. The onus is on the driver to tell the DVLA.

My licence has "01", and I haven't notified DVLA that I need glasses to read a number plate at 20 metres... So where did the addition on my licence come from?

In fact I meet that requirement without glasses, although I have glasses to assist distance vision.

Not so. My current passport photo has glasses, and the gov.uk website says: "Do not wear glasses in your photo unless you have to do so. If you must wear glasses, they cannot be sunglasses or tinted glasses, and you must make sure your eyes are not covered by the frames or any glare, reflection or shadow."

I never really noticed that part, I just take my glasses off for the picture, the online portal usually rejects the picture for some bizarre reason anyway, I won't give it any more excuse.

(Last time it was because my mouth was hanging open like some slack jawed yokel, yet in the picture I am tight lipped.....)
