Step away from the GenAI guff scaremongery clickbait websites.

Even their link simply takes you to the usual "renew at 70" website. There is no such new eyesight law.

Obviously, regular eyetests are a bloody good idea for everybody, every age, driver or not.

And, obviously, if your sight is so poor that you'd fail the (abysmally low) standard for driving, you'd be driving illegally anyway.

A bit of false info there methinks.

The age 70 - 3 year renewal asks if you need glasses to drive.  As the test is free at that age it would be foolish not to & driving without glasses if you need them is illegal.  I started to wear distance glasses just before my 70th & got a snotty letter asking why I hadn't already told them.

Loads of these sites springing up in news feeds about all sorts of Government topics.
Like you say the giveaway is the .io domain.
You would think that these news feeds would filter out this rubbish.

The government is finally considering making an eye test compulsory when renewing a driving licence at 70, and thereafter.  About time too.  It should have been law years ago.
After the age of 60, the NHS will pay for a basic eye test.  You should get one done every 2 years.  Nobody should be driving around with defective vision because they couldn't be bothered to have an eye test.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

It should be a regular requirement for everyone once they get their provisional licence.  My sister's eyesight was worse at 20 than mine was at 70.  Age is irrelevant.  Either forced testing for everybody or nobody.

As the eye test costs nothing for over 70s why not get one done? As a point of interest loss of sight is considered worse than everything else - Loss of life actually comes lower down.

I personally am diabetic and legally have to have an annual test - I also have a Medical Licence as I am an Insulin user.
