Just a quick update been on the road all day with my job. My fence man has finished the fence and it looks really good definetely worth the £450. He has quoted me £430 for taking out the hedge at the side of the drive and putting a fence in as well as putting hardcore down. That will make our drive wider which will be nice when getting in and out of cars. I have said yes and it should look nice. He starts tomorrow which is fab.

That is £880 spent on the garden this week but I did get my expenses paid from work (£580) and my £150 bingo win was paid out too. Work still owe me £550 which will clear my credit card bill so all in all not too bad.

Just recommended Quidco to my workmate so should get some money for that. Better email her the info now.

    Good luck :j

This is so true! I have tried to keep to sensible expenditure on DS, always dressing him in Tesco or Mothercare basics and not buying every toy on the market (though I realise it can be done much more frugally too). A close friend had a baby at the same time as me and she spends a fortune in Baby Gap etc and endless new shoes before her son could even crawl. She is living on benefits but is running up bills all over the place.

I suppose that if you are a spender, a babe is a good excuse for shopping. If you are more MSE minded, you will still be sensible. Having a baby does change things but it doesn't fundamentally alter the person that you really are IMHO.

Sad that, I had hoped it would make me super organised and 3 stone lighter...:rotfl:

Spending money on children clothes I am right with you on that one. My newphew is now 4 but my sister lives in Denmark and it is so much cheaper to buy clothes here as it is VAT free. I have bought him lots over the years and they don' have a lot of money. Now she has had a baby girl - 6 months old and it is so hard to resist all those lovely pink things. If I had a baby girl I could just imagine the bills. My sister is very sensible buy mainly clothes from the supermarkets so it is nice when I can spoil her a bit.

Anyway had a really good day workwise and will be in the offic to write up all my reports tomorrow. Have an appraisal at work on Tuesday and is dreading it a bit as I am not have overly keen on things at the moment as my manager is so horrid. I have two and the one above her is cool but this one - she is awful and I am so rubbish at lying and saying all is fine. Will have to complete the forms tomorrow so we shall see.

When I got home my new fence was up, now its just the gravel and bits to do and it is all done. Could not believe the guy was working in the pouring rain. Really committed and I am going to recommend him to our neighbours the whole area is 15 years old and everyones fences are rotton.

Well this is getting quite long better stop now.

  • Deciding not to have children was the best choice I could have made. I was in a different position than most in that I never had a biological urge to have children and so approached it from more of an intellectual standpoint. I suppose the biggest reasons for me deciding not to have children were environmental ones (serious human overpopulation problem!) and the fact that this is not a very nice place to live (the world in general, that is, not just this country).

Too many people have children for the wrong reasons... because it's expected, because they're trying to make up for a less-than-ideal childhood of their own, because they see it as a shot at immortality, because they're afraid of being alone when they're old, because they want their children to fulfill the dreams they never did, etc.

It certainly will take you down a very different path than the one you are on now, and there's no turning back once you're on it. You will be responsible for the life of another person.

Having children is not for everyone... only you (and your DH) can make that decision. Good luck in making the choice!

Being a parent is the most thankless job in the entire world but at the same time, the most rewarding.
I didn't plan either of mine but I wouldn't be without them now.
There is something so wonderful about waking up with a sweaty dribbly toddler hogging your bed. Espescially when they see you wake up and give you kisses and say "I love you Mummy"

I've just had my Mum staying with us and it was lovely watching her and DS playing together and so enjoying each other's company. She taught DS how to balance a piece of card on his head and they both looked so pleased with themselves.

Totally agree with Pandora123 that kids are not for everyone and that you should only have them if you really want them, for their own sake. If you do though, they can be fab.

    Happy thinking!

Seems like I am not the only one that is finding it hard to make a decision which is kind of nice. Pandora123 I fully understand your decision too. Last night I was talking to a girlfriend of mine she is 28 about this dilemma. She told me she decided at 12 when she lost her mum to cancer not to have any children. She has lost so many in her family to cancer that she really does not want to pass on her bad genes.

I think it is easier for men in a way as they have have children right up to an old age. But then again would you want to look like you are a granfather when taking your child to school? Difficult decision.

On a much ligther note our fence is now finished and we have a lovely wider driveway now. It does look a bit bare with no plants so I have to come up with something to soften it up. The problem is we have such high winds it just rips everything apart.

Went to look at bathrooms today. Have been doing it for a while and I was getting really fed up with it. Most places they will do you a 3d drawing based on your measuremets but the people doing it know very little apart from how to use the computer. I want to know what will fit, can we move things about a little etc etc but no luck so far. We saw a flyer for Dolphin Bathrooms last weekend with a new range that look really nice. If we are spending some money on it I want something that will last not just something cheap like we have. Anyway went to the showroom, asked for this new range woman acted as if she had never heard of it eventhough the flyers were everywhere in the shop. I showed her one and she said no we don't have that. I asked if it was coming in - no was all she said. I was just about to ask something else but her phone rang and she answered it. We walked away in disgust what crap service. Will not deal with them.

Anyway found this place today run by a guy who employs his own fitters. He only had a small shop but everything in there was just perfect. He will come and measure up in a couple of weeks and tell us what we can fit in. He really knows what he is doing (he actually owns the shop) so I feel much better doing it that way. He gave us lots of brochures with the ranges we liked and turns out it is exactly the same stuff and we saw that Dolphin was flogging. Great stuff can't wait now eventhough it will hit the MFi3 quest a bit. Hey it should add value to the house to get rid 15 year old batrooms with gold taps.
