Just about to.open one if these but before I do can anyone see a downside ??

I already have a Nationwide £18 a month Flexplus account which I would close

**edit: Just found one - all cover ceases at 75 not that it affects me but may be important for some people
I was thinking about doing this. I have existing conditions so was wondering how they would be treated for the travel insurance however I suspect the Nationwide cover would also be effected as the conditions came on since the Flex Plus was opened. I couldn't really find a way online in advance of applying to establish if I'd be covered with Santander
"If you’re not sure if Chubb need to know something, you can get in touch with them for advice by calling them on 0800 519 8034, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm."
    Also:
"If you want travel insurance without  the other benefits of the Santander Edge Explorer current account, then have a look at our travel insurance page." - I guess it's the same Chubb.

I have an Edge Saver. I have just received an email which (as in the Key Facts link above) says under Eligibility:
"Because this is an online account, you’ll need to sign up for Online and Mobile Banking, if you
    haven’t already."
I have online banking, but not mobile banking. Is this a new requirement to install the Santander app on a mobile phone?

No, you can use Online Banking or the app.

Online Banking works in a browser, on either a laptop / desktop / tablet, or on a mobile phone.

I suppose they mean you can't get service for this account in a branch (if you even still have access to a branch)

Hopefully, you are right. The Edge Saver is still showing on my account. It has not been downgraded to an Everyday Saver yet. For the Edge Current Account, it says:
"As this is a paper-free account, you’ll need to give us a valid email address and sign up for
Online Banking. We’ll then email you when we’ve sent any documents to you."
There is nothing about not using branches or needing mobile banking. (The current account is "paper-free" and the saver is "online".) I do have a local branch, but you are doing well if you manage to get counter service there, whatever your account. The Nationwide and Skipton look better if you want counter service.

Your Edge saver will only be downgraded to an Everyday saver if  you no longer have a corresponding Edge or Edge Explorer account.

I have never used Santander mobile banking. I opened my Edge Saver on 27th June. I did not keep a copy of the Key Facts document in force then. (The Key Facts document serves as the product specific Terms and Conditions.) The current Key Facts document says that I need to have mobile banking in addition to online banking to be eligible for the Edge Saver. Is that a new requirement or was already an (unenforced) requirement when I opened the account? The Key Facts document says that my Edge Saver "may" be downgraded if I fail to meet the eligibility requirements. The practical answer is to wait and see.
  • Regarding Santander Edge cashback. For the last two months I've not received cashback for debit card spending, only the direct debit cashback. I thought cashback was still available for supermarket and travel spending, is that correct? Thanks.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
