    Fridge with a freezer compartment.
    Something like this:
(Just an example, not a recommendation as I've not owned that model.)

Depends what you need and want.

Suspect many would prefere fridge to freezer - folk arent used to the larder type cool room storage our parents and grandparents often relied on for such goods.

But depends what you need - a fridge for keeping things like dairy and cold meets etc fresh for a few days -  a freezer for keeping things frozen that you boght frozen and to freeze say batch prepared meals for months on end.

If space is that tight - and its only for say 1-2 - how about the 2 in 1 - both fridge AND "freezer"

Have you considered the compromise - a fridge with a mini frozen icebox compartment - (They do still sell them) - where you get the space of one shelf to keep just a few items of bought frozen food items frozen.

Most iirc when parents had one as a kid - didn't actually freeze - and store for less time (as they only generally do upto 1 month where a full freezer would keep to use by date).  But would take a tub of icecream or box of ice lollys for us when kids or a few frozen ready meals when we were in teens.

as above, it depends on what you need.

If its to store milk, cheese, butter etc then a fridge is what you need as frozen milk, butter or cheese isnt ever so convenient.

Most under counter fridges have an ice box which will give you the option to store a few items of frozen food as well. @QrizB suggests the sort of item

it would depend on what adjacent space/room used for in order to create working triangle between sink cooker fridge.
Undercounter freezer might suit you if larger fridge easily accessible

Do you have space elsewhere for a freezer?

I could not survive without a fridge when you use milk, butter etc & need to keep them cool.

Our freezer is in the garage. Due to shortage of space in Kitchen.

Hi yes I use butter milk etc
The fridges with small freezer at the top just don't look big enough and sounds like they aren't as cold either.
Can I get a 50-50 fridge freezer with own doors?
Or one for under the counter and a very small one on top of the worktop?

Also which is cheaper to run? I already decided against a tumble dryer due to running cost.

The fridge part is as cold as a fridge is meant to be (aound 4C). The freezer box in the one I linked is four-star rated and is suitable for storing small amounts of frozen food. Exlanation of star ratings here.

You'll have to look and see what's available.

Yes, either way up (undercounter fridge and countertop freezer, or undercounter fridge and countertop freezer).

One appliance is cheaper than two, and a fridge (with a freezer compartment) is usually cheaper than a freezer.
Check the energy efficiency labels and you'll see the typical energy use on them, in kWh/yr.
