controlaccount/fedex help

Hello,
I am new here and would really appreciate some advice.
I received a letter yesterday dated 1/09/25 from controlaccount informing me that despite FedEx's 'recent communications' charges remain outstanding. If I do not pay within seven days the matter will be handed over to controlaccounts litigation department to pursue legal action. 'This is your final opportunity to remedy this matter prior to further action being taken'.
I had never heard of controlaccounts before and although I receive deliveries from FedEx all the time, I had no communications regarding outstanding payments.
The letter arrived on 08/09/25, so the seven days had passed before I knew any of this existed.
I contacted fedex, who refused to tell me what this was about and had to log in to controlaccounts to find out.
On 19/05/25 FedEx had e-mailed me requiring a payment of £262.61 in duties, taxes and fees. I followed their payment link and paid the sum (you can't alter the total. You pay in full of not at all).
The invoice controlaccount was provided by FedEx is in the amount of £321.37. Even on this invoice has the 'total balance due: £0.00'.
I was able to contact FedEx again and they refused point black to acknowledge the only payment I ever knew was requested was from the original e-mail, which I paid in full and sent them screenshots to prove that was the sum they required to release the shipment and release the shipment they did after receiving this payment.
The 'pay now' link still say takes me to a 'you have already paid' page.
I still didn't know why the charge had increased by £58.76, but I made the payment, as demanded by the agent. I had to go to a different payment type page and enter in all the details because the original payment page was still in the total of £262.61 and paid.
I have tried to contact controlaccounts with no success. I had uploaded all the evidence I had to their site, but nothing has happened apart from they have increased their charge from £25 to £35 as the seven days had passed.
I really resent my details being passed to a collection agency and I am still worried about what the collection agency can do.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

If you have proof that you paid the amount requested by FedEx back in May - you say you have screenshots and presumably something on a bank or credit card statement - and you have already furnished this proof to controlaccounts, I'm not sure what else you can do.
Obviously if they sue you, you can prove that you had already paid.
You might want to go back to contolaccounts again and reiterate your position.0 -
Send a prove it letter to control accounts. They will have to state what the debt is for.Life in the slow lane2

Thanks. I went to the controlaccount page and left a new message. The account is now on 48 hour hold, so hopefully this is good news. Thank you for your suggestions!👍0

The account being on hold was just so they could ignore the evidence I provided. Contolaccount seeks 'recovery' of the funds having passed my details on to their collection process. I have twice been told by FedEx that they will call off controlaccount and one agent has told me to ignore further communications from them. Although FedEx have been paid twice, I don't know what happens with the charges controlaccount has made. I don't know my rights or how this works.0

Any charges levied by ControlAccount based on an invalid invoice are null and void - it would be for CA to pursue their client for renumeration, not to pursue you. Just tell CA stop pussyfooting around and take you to court - let a judge decide, and when YOU win you can claim back costs incurred.Jenni x0

Thank you for that. I am concerned because FedEx sent an invoice (which I paid in full), created a new invoice with a new total (also marked as paid in full, although I had no idea about it), so I have no idea what other invoices they can produce whenever they change their minds about what is owed. They also told controlaccount that they contacted me to raise the issue on more than one occasion. This never happened. So if FedEx have provided them with these lies and documents to try and prove the charges, will a court not view controlaccounts as acting honestly? All charges have been paid to FedEx now, so does controlaccounts have a right to pursue the charges controlaccounts made?Jenni_D said:Any charges levied by ControlAccount based on an invalid invoice are null and void - it would be for CA to pursue their client for renumeration, not to pursue you. If you can demonstrate that you've paid all the charges you owe to FedEx then controlaccounts will lose if they sue you in court.
FedEx can't just create "made up" invoices. they would have to be able to prove - to a court - that thay were valid invoices and that you owed them the money. If they've "made up" the invoices they wouldn't be able to prove that you owed them that money
(In any case - and I may be mistaken about this - my understanding is that if you owe a debt to FedEx, then controlaccounts can't sue you unless FedEx have formally and legally assigned the debt to them, and you would be notified of this in writing. but I may be wrong...)0 -
Thanks. Controlaccount are charging me £35 for them to collect the money for FedEx. Can they take me to court for that? FedEx has all the money they claimed I owe them and that has been removed from controlaccount's site, but the £35 remains outstanding.Okell said:If you can demonstrate that you've paid all the charges you owe to FedEx then controlaccounts will lose if they sue you in court.

If you can show that you had paid FedEx everything that you owed them before FedEx (wrongly) got controlaccounts involved, then I don't see how controlaccounts can legally charge you anything.267375470653 said:

If controlaccounts have incurred costs as a result of FedEx wrongly passing your account on to them, controlaccounts need to take it up with FedEx, not you.
If you can't get either of them to see sense and to understand this and to rectify the situation, I'd just ignore controlaccounts unless they actually sue. And if they did, I don't see how they would win
NB - The above assumes you had paid FedEx all you owed them (1) on time before you incurred any further charges to FedEx, and (2) before they passed it on to controlaccounts. Only you know whether this is what you did or not - we only know what you tell us.0 -
If they think you still owe the money then yes, they can.267375470653 said:

If you have proof you have paid. Then they should lose the case. So would not get their £35 admin cost & have to pay for the court case.Life in the slow lane0
