On most actual bills the VAT is shown separately as 5% of usage and standing charge total.
Have another look at your actual bill.
    Yep you're right. I think.

Right above the rates it says prices don't include vat unless noted.

I'll assume that applies for absolutely any price all over the bill - how much I've used over on the left side of the bill as well as the unit rate and standing charges over on the right side of the bill.

There's a line for vat on left when showing calculations BTW.

So whole my last bill shows gas standing charge as 27.59 for example then it really isn't like that I guess.

Annoying when places price you like that. I'm going a bit off topic with this moan now but I like places that say this costs £10 and that's exactly what it costs you. Give them £10 you get the item.
I hear where I work price up to customers a lot & they say that'll be £50 then. Customer goes to pay £50. Oh no that's £50 plus VAT.

Well I don't care what the price is minus VAT. I only care what cash I'm handing over. You do the maths & tell me what I'm paying, not a number that I'm not paying because what's the point in that? May as well tell me everything costs £1 but then add on the remainder of the actual bill.

    Rant over :)

Ah, it was a cash in hand tariff you are looking for, there used to be a guy down the Dog&Duck on a Saturday lunchtime who could organise them. Not seen him for awhile though.
