Don't insure with this awful company. I took insurance and paid annually as ever. When I sold the car they gave NO refund at all and tried to charge me a fee. Can't get hold of anyone either, just a bot and it takes ages for a response. If it goes off you start again. Save yourself the hassle0

Absolutely disgusting company avoid at all costs. Cancelled policy after just a couple of months as switched from a van to car. They wouldn’t let me change policy from van to car so had to cancel and then take out new policy for a car. When I was informed there would be no refund on the van policy due to fees etc etc I obviously didn’t bother ……Avoid as they are scammers in a nut shell !

In fairness to them, many insurers won't cover a Van on a Car policy if you are talking a transit or something else exclusively a van, you get into more of a grey area if you are talking about a car based van like a Corsa Van.
They are also an intermediary so it's the selected underwriter who will decide if they will accept both vans and cars on the same policy or not.
Motorbikes are the same, you can't switch a motorbike policy onto a car or van.

One protect insurance IS a scam. They are fraudsters!
They came up as on of the cheaper options when I did a price comparison and so I went with their quote. A few days later I noticed the payment schedule showed monthly payments of £54!
I tried to call them to explain this and no joy. Only option was by chatting. Their explanation was that I added extra products ( yes the same ones that are shown as standard on their quote) with the exception of protected no claims.
I said if they couldn't revert to the price I was shown at the start I will cancel. Noting this was 11 days after the policy started.
Behold, I was told that cancellation, even though within the cooling off period will cost £89.58!!
Be warned!! I will report this to the ombudsman.

They are entitled to charge in the cooling off period, the law says they have to allow you to cancel in the first 14 days not that it has to be cost free to do so. In principle they dont have to give you any right to cancel after the 14 days but in practice all motor insurers do for the core product. Often for ancillary items like LE these cannot be cancelled after the 14 days and certain classes of insurance (eg PMI) dont allow cancellation of the main policy either.

What was the shown price when you bought it, as that's just a quote.
Let's Be Careful Out There0 -
Yes, they are cheap and that is the mistake I made when insuring my 19 year old car. I submitted a claim for a no fault incident. Horror then followed. They took my car away for repair. I heard nothing for over a week and when eventually I managed to communicate with someone (email, phone and website are equally frustrating) I learned that my car had been written off. Eventually I got it back but dealing with this company is a nightmare. You should be aware that One Call and One Protect are one and the same company even though those at their respective call centres deny it. I believe One Call/One Protect should be removed from MSE's recommendation and I advise people to go for a name insurance company and not be attracted by price. Furthermore One Protect told me that they are not insurers but only brokers. BEWARE

Dont need to ask the call centre, the footer of the two websites states they are the same company.
Many insurers trade under multiple brands for various reasons. That said, from a call centre operator point of view they may as well be a different company because they can have distinct teams in distinct office selling distinct products. I dont know how Direct Line is now, particularly since the purchase by Aviva but going back a few years Churchill, Direct Line, Privilege were totally separate on everything customer facing and about 50% of the back office functions. It's stuff like IT and Legal which would cover both all the brands.

Very disappointing. I was paying by direct debit and was up to date. I sold the car and was told that they wanted a further £199 + £55 for cancellation. This is for a service I could use or access as the car was sold. I was prepared to pay a reasonable cancellation fee but not to have to pay for insurance that was no longer available to me. After a lengthy communication with an agent I was shut down. So I now don't know where I stand. I would look elsewhere to insure as they are neither fair nor reasonable.
