TV licencing letter with my name!

Just had one of their letters this morning, which is nothing new in itself, but this time they have included my name and not just to the "Legal Occupier".

Now I've never owned (possessed etc...) a colour TV as money was tight when I bought the house in the 1980s with wonderfully high mortgage rates, and never got round to buying one when my B&W went pop, as I found I didn't miss it. It means I have a bit of a gap when it comes to pub quizzes!;-)

I don't use iplayer or Netflix etc and was just wondering how they got my personal details?

I don't have a camera on my door so always open it, but I'm very efficient in saying 'Not interested, thank you' to charity callers, anybody with a clipboard, 'wash your drive?' types and the like, so no worries there.

They occasionally buy commercial data from opted-in sources.   If you have provided data that contains your name and address and not opted out of commercial exploitation then that could be the source.

It doesn't mean anything in terms of their level of suspicion of your address (not that that has any bearing on anything).

Thanks. I normally opt out but I might have missed a tick box somewhere. No matter, I just prefer to have an immediate indication that the letter can go straight in the log basket. This one needed an extra glance.;-)

BBC/TVL haven't traditionally done that.   But it's worth opting out of the public register for other reasons.

I always do, thanks, but it's a point to consider.

    Just ignore it.
You can show them you don't have a TV or recording equipment.
If they want to suggest you're watching live TV from a gadget ask them to show you proof.

Just be sure no one is able to log into your router and is using it

    They're just catfishing.
If they do turn up, remember they have no right to enter your property.

Absolutely show them nothing, don't let them in the property, tell them they're trespassing and then close the door.

I would strongly suggest not showing them anything except the way out, and not answering any questions.   There is nothing to be gained from it and trying to reason with them is pointless.

Poor advice to the OP. I hope the OP ignores it.
