EES (Entry/Exit System) for most EU countries

I flew home to London from Stockholm last August and a photo was taken but no fingerprint at all. I really don't know how significant that photo is.

I flew back from Puglia last May and noticed in the plane that I had no exit stamp. I was due to fly to Stockholm in August so kept my Puglia boarding pass just in case. Noone commented at all on my arrival in Stockholm.

Mine was actually the opposite way round - I have a departure stamp but no entry stamp. Though looking at it now they have stamped my departure on 23/4/2026 on the same page as my previous entry on 28/12/2025 so at first glance it looks like I was there for 4 months! I suspect I may have to explain myself on my next trip to the EU in June …

As I think I said above, there doesn't appear to be any logic in where the stamps go, and I haven't noticed anybody try to make sense of them.

Is there a way to find out if I am registered with EES? I flew into Geneva in December and at the passport check had my photo taken, fingerprints done and passport scanned. Was this for EES or simply entry to Switzerland? I fly to Dusseldorf in May with a tight domestic connection, so I'm keen to estimate how long I'll take to get through immigration.

From recent comments I've seen, it's pretty hit and miss as there doesn't yet seem to be a fully operational working database. Even people flying to the same airport for a second time have had to go through the entire process again.

I don't think there is any way to find out if you are registered but it's likely you were, as Switzerland is part of EES.
However, as has been said, it will not necessarily reduce the time it takes for you to get through immigration next time.

the issue might be that a lot of countries don’t have separate queues, so even if you are registered you might be herded behind people waiting to register.

Unlikely to make much difference. I was directed to the scanners at Madrid airport, even after having completed entry and registering at Madrid airport on arrival! My next European visit to a different country and I had to register again.
We were looking for a quick week in the sun in May, seeing all the delays posted, we have chosen Greece, just because they’ve abandoned EES for now.

The problem is that even if you have registered elsewhere the system it may not have worked and even if it did there doesn't seem to be operational enough yet for that to be recognised at every airport so you may be asked to register again.
At Tenerife South recently I was directed to the registration terminals but as soon as I scanned my passport it just told me to go to the e-gates so I didn't need to do it again. I was through in less than a minute. Coming back there was no queue so it too a few seconds. The scanners seem a lot quicker than the e-gates at UK airports.
It would be nice if you were given a reference number so that you could see your registration online or in an EES app.
