Wow, that made good reading!!!!
I've got a few friends who have had this bug in the last few days and they have all told me how bad it was and I'm sure they will all sympathise with you, thankfully I have managed to stay away from getting it, so far fingers crossed!
My daughter became ill on holiday last summer when she was nearly two, luckily she wasn't hospitalised. We were in Austria and filled all the forms in at the doctors but still couldn't claim off the e111 when we got back. We did have travel insurance but the amount wasn't really worth claiming after the excess.
Surely the main thing for you is that your child got good care and is now recovering from the illness. I agree that being able to claim some money back would be good but I'm sure you are just happy that your child got good care. I know when my little girl was ill the money didn't mean anything!0 -
Yes you are bang on I am just thankful we are all home safe and sound. Someone said to me today 'you must be so disappointed' but I 'm genuinely not at all.... just happy we're over that awful awful bug.
And luckily my little angel is still a little too young to know what she missed. We did get her photograph with her heroin Sleeping Beauty in out 20 mins in the park and she adores the photo.
Please don't anyone make any cynical or nasty or 'let that be a lesson to you' replies.... I'm just replying to the last poster.0 -

Just found this thread while looking for money saving tips as we're going the disney Paris end of Feb.
Would like to say to OP, Glad you are all home safe and sound and it was so unfortunate that your holiday started/ended this way
I always end up learning the hard way  We broke down on the motor way, 80 miles from home, on the way to Brean Sands one year. We had no cover, so had to use our measly spending money to get the AA to tow us home. Needless to say, we now have roadside cover
So after reading this, I am going to search for insurance for our hol, as I wouldn't have done it otherwise
We've never left the Uk, so am new to this booking holiday milarky.0 -
I went to Paris a year ago and had an unfortunate accident that could have been the end of me when I fell down a trap door that was in a restaurant (as in, in the restaurant, not stuck behind the bar. They opened it while I was in the toilet and on my return, not knowing the floor had been temporarily removed, I fell down it on the way back to my table). I was taken to hospital by the paramedics in a fire engine and was eventaully seen about 3 hours later. After x-rays showed no breaks, I was sent back to my hotel in a taxi, with a prescription for painkillers for ruptured knee ligaments.
I was in possession of both an EHIC card and excess-free annual travel cover, but all they wanted was my passport (which I had on me, having arrived just a couple of hours before dining in the restaurant). I assumed all would be covered by the reciprocal agreements between the UK and France.
A few months later bills started to arrive. I have a degree in French but the legal jargon was beyond my competence. They wanted me to pay 70-odd € by cheque for my x-rays and consultation. And a similar amount for the 'ambulance'.
I knew cheques wouldn't be valid, so I phoned the Dept for Health. They told me to send them the bills and sent me an envelope in which to return them. I did so promptly. Some time later they returned them to me telling me I had to pay them and send the receipt to them, so that I could be reimbursed. Apparently you can pay at 'any bank'.
So I went to my bank and said I wanted to pay. They were unable to advise me of any way that wouldn't either cost a fortune or would ensure that the French health service would provide me with the receipt needed to claim the costs back. I have since received reminders of a vaguely threatening red colour, but am unsure what to do next.
I owe them around £100 for treatment. I have twice attempted to settle the bills. The UK reimburses its EHIC-covered citizens for medical costs in the EU. Can't the Dept for Health just pay it direct on my behalf and cut out the ludicrous timewasting bureaucracy, with someone somewhere opening letters from people who have had to pay inflated bank fees to pay a bill and obtained a receipt from someone in France whose job it is to issue receipts to send back to the UK so these can be sent to the relevant health department so that the government can pay them back?
I know what I should really do is send the bills the the restaurant in Paris but I failed to obtain the address before being taken off in the fire engine.
So I need some financial advice. Am I in the right place?0 -
You had annual travel policy - you should have sent the bills to them for settlement.0
-
Should I do that now? It was nearly a year ago when I had the accident and about 8 months ago that the bills started to arrive.0
