Super helpful Valli. Thanks for that. I'll ring the Foodbank tomorrow and let them know. All our filing cabinets are old but if that system was in place when they were manufactured that would be great.Better is good enough.5

HB I have some very old filing cabinet keys, let me know the number, if I have the key it is your, failing that a large flat screw driver may do the job, to bust the lock if needed.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

A big double effort of flying today as we have visitors over the weekend. Between us we have cleaned and tidied every room where guests may go i.e. not my study or our bedroom! I just have to do a final clean of the kitchen tomorrow after I've made bread, made a cake and arranged some flowers.
- We both went to Mr A with a huge list (on the reverse of which I'd written meal plans). To our surprised pleasure, all but one item was in stock so it didn't take as long as we'd feared.
-Went to small garden nursery/cafe on the way home hoping to get a few leftover bedding plants to replenish hanging baskets and a few gaps in the beds; all has severely deteriorated in the drought. Zilch. But they did have a good price on Heucheras, which I love, so bought 4. I'll put some of them in a basket/container till the end of autumn then plant them out (or they get evil weevils). Treated ourselves to coffee and cake, which I regretted.
- Got home in time to put some shopping away then change for lake swim. Had planned to take friend but sadly when she brought her dog in from the garden, she (the dog) had hurt her eye so was whisked off to the vet. I'm a bit concerned I haven't heard how she got on. Had a nice swim, did about 350m without constant pins & needles (about a third of it). I just missed two young kingfishers, the ladies just behind me saw them just as I had got out.
- Returned from swim, tried to find list/menu plan. Nah. Mr N sheepishly said it may be in recycling box; we both searched and it wasn't there. Tried car boot, shopping bags, odd corners of kitchen.........Mr N eventually found it in his manbag.
- Did gas and electric readings, put on line and on my spreadsheet.
- Confirmed date of financial review with my usual local chap.
Hope Miss MMM gets over her fall easily; been there, done that! What sort of horse does she have, I keep meaning to ask. Actually I tried to avoid falling off my (late) boy as he was 16.2hh and I'm small!
Tomorrow's plan:
- put breadmaker on
- make date & apple cake
- do flower arrangement for lounge, guest room and dining table
- pick any 'village greengages' left
- put new Heucheras in a basket or pot
- final kitchen tidy
- make topping for Saturday's salmon
- double-check ingredients against meal plan.
- we're having lunch with bike friends
- zumba at 5.45 and should be home before DB and SIL arrive
- really need to see if my arm will cope with drumming as it is not long before term starts.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.6 -
Made batch 2 of chilli jelly and potted that. I’ve made so much lately that I’m running out of jars. But the new jelly bag is awkward to use as, when there’s weight in it, the drawstring wants to tighten up then the bag gets lower…I might invest in a bag and stand.
Ironing all done and iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner all put away. WUALTD too. WM locked and loaded. DW can have a night off.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Thanks Kazwookie for that amazing offer and I'll bear it in mind. The person who mislaid the key went home to see if he put it in his jeans pocket yesterday and as I haven't heard from him I rather think the key is seriously lost. I'll ring them tomorrow morning to see where they are with it and run the suggestions on here past them. I need a functioning lockable filing cabinet for the paperwork I deal with for GDPR so if we have to break into the cabinet it'll need to be replaced pronto. It would happen, inevitably, the week before we do the end of year returns, stocktake, reconcile the stock figures, close down the year's figures, empty the filing cabinet and restart at the beginning of September, wouldn't it.Better is good enough.4

Afternoon all. Washload done and already dry and put away. I dusted, polished and vacuumed downstairs and up the stairs and washed the kitchen floor. We went for a short drive and had a walk and then coffee in Waitrose. The offer was scone, cream and jam for £2 with your Waitrose card so I got that in a bag to bring home. That can be my tea so it's not extra just instead ofJust had lunch and cleared away. New people moving in next door so there's lots of cleaning and stuff going on but not unncecessarily noisy. So far !Hope everyone's OK. Should vacuum upstairs really but we've been awake since 2.30 am so maybe not today. It will still be there tomorrow;)5
