OP if you placed an order online it is likely a distance contract with the right to cancel, timeframes vary depending upon information given.

Would need to know date of delivery and what website?

     They keep saying in processing.
Processing your return or your refund? Do you have an email saying they have processed the refund?
I got an email from them on 25th July saying it is refunded

Does it detail the last 4 numbers of your card?

@born_again for chargeback rights in this situation :)

Presumably they could also chargeback if they simply have the tracking advice showing it was returned to the merchant

OP hasn't said the reason but assuming change of mind no chargeback, if the dress was not as described upon receipt for any reason then there should be a chargeback right. :)

Op said does not fit, so would be a change of mind in some ways.
Also not clear if this was a in-store or online purchase.🤷‍♀️

@born_again sorry just to confirm :)

Chargeback covers non receipt and not as described but the thing where they cover a promised refund is that is all circumstances or only non receipt and not as described?

Given retailer has said they have refunded, then it would be non receipt of refund.

Not convinced "Not as described" would work. Given OP only saying "does not fit". Which retailer can contest stating ordered X & received X size.
That would drop into change of mind (not covered)

    No I didn't think it would :)

    Thanks again.

I just wasn't sure if non-receipt of refund was a specific type of cover or whether it had to be linked to non-receipt or not as described.

So even if someone changes their mind, as long as they get an email to say

    "xx/xx/xxxx £35.89 refund to card ending 1234"

a chargeback for non receipt of refund is valid.
