Morning all
Anyone else had the issue of not being able to switch on-line to a new fixed rate tariff when your existing fixed rate still has several months to run?
I last switched back in March when I did it on-line with no issue.
I wanted to switch on Friday (8th Aug), but had to send an e-mail. The quote received this morning offers unit rates which have increased.
To say I'm not best pleased is an understatement - although in the big scheme of things, the lower unit rates would have been worth (only) about £50 in real money over the fixed rate term.

Yes it happens it gets disabled for ages at a time. There is a magic link you can follow (see next post)
For your existing request email them again asking them to honour the rate when you sent the email.1 -

Or I’ve asked them to make a compensatory payment if they can’t give me the exact unit rates from last Friday.0 -

I appreciate you letting me know about this.
But really, why is it necessary to make it this hard?0 -
But really, why is it necessary to make it this hard?Very few Octopus customers seem to realise that since they became the largest energy supplier in the country they are no longer the same company that made them an attractive proposition in the first place. They don't appear to offer attractive tariffs any longer and are no longer willing to compete for business. Customer service is dire and their website is very poor.Unfortunately they're rapidly heading towards the British Gas model of business with that same feeling that they no longer need to try to attract new customers or offer competitive tariffs to keep existing ones.

You could always rings them and they'll switch the tariff while you're on the call.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Even with the magic link you may find it fails at the final step if you are on a fixed deal that is not near expiring but it is easy if you have less than a month left as they send you an email with a link as well as being able to go via the account. I think they are still better than BG, offering both variable direct debit (to avoid all the direct debit rises) and good phone based customer service.1
