I don’t see any crime either, unless you really think it was damaged deliberately. It being a crime wouldn’t help you anyway. You claim against the driver/Uber and in turn they pass it to their insurers.

    https://www.uber.com/gb/en/ride/contact/

    Call us on 0808 189 7190 or 0808 501 5525

You can call us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note that this phone line only offers support for users or trips taken in the UK.

You can also call the support line via your Uber app:

    • Tap the ‘Help’ button in the menu
    • Tap 'Call Support' and you’ll be connected to a trained member of the team

Where should i go with it, as i am housebound now as my chair is knackered.

Shall i try the police or shall i go back for Uber and ask about their insurance.

    Thanks
I'm sorry, but I doubt any claim you make will be settled quickly.

You need to make a claim against Uber who should pass it to their insurer, if they decide not to settle the claim themselves.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I assume you have insurance for your powered chair, such as this:
    https://markbatesltd.com/schemes/mobility-warranty

Typically, your powered wheelchair insurance covers theft, mechanical breakdown and accidental damage (which this is). Claiming on your insurance is far and away the fastest and best route to getting mobile again. That's what they deal with everyday.

If the insurers think there is a case to claim against Uber they will take care of that.

You could try 111, but I would expect a full sorry. This is a civil matter.

It's criminal damage to your property and certainly intentional.  you have 24 hours to report it to the police.

Utter nonsense. From the limited deatils how did you get that it was intentional damage? Also that's totally incorrect about the 24 hours.

I don’t think the NHS could help.

It doesn't sound criminal at all, just accidental damage.

Ask Uber about their liability insurance.

It could be criminal damage if the driver was reckless.  (ie didn't care whether he caused damage or not)

AIUI that would be sufficient to satisfy the mens rea of criminal damage.

whether the police would take action or not is another matter.

If I were the OP I'd get my police report than take it up with Uber

As I said, it's not going to help the OP get compensation either way, so they still need to pursue a civil claim. I think some people have the idea that the police are a publicly-funded debt recovery service.

Yes, it would help the OP in the unlikely event that the driver was charged and found guilty.

The burden of proof is much lower for a civil case than for a prosecution (balance of probability as opposed to beyond reasonable doubt) so if there is a possibility of a prosecution the advice is always to delay a civil suit until the outcome of the prosecution is known.

However in today's broken legal system a prosecution would take at least a year and a civil hearing at least a year after that.

    Claim on your insurance.
