Hi everyone,

Last night my Uber Driver (I booked an Uber XL) dragged my fold down electric wheelchair across the floor and has damaged the chair and snapped the control handle.

I told him also before he arrived via the message service that i am disabled and have an electric collapsible fold down wheelchair.

I have contacted Uber immediately, and they've advised me to report it to the police.

They said they want a crime reference number, will the police give me a crime reference number for this.

I have taken photos of it, but what would it go under to get a crime reference number.

Thanks for any replies.

Ask them if they want their driver named as a criminal?

You can try if that satisfies Uber quicker, but really if you asked the Uber driver to move the chair and they did so poorly, then its a civil issue not a crime and the police may well refuse.

I think that is their way of deterring people from pursuing claims.

It's criminal damage to your property and certainly intentional.  you have 24 hours to report it to the police.

It doesn't sound criminal at all, just accidental damage.

Ask Uber about their liability insurance.

Uber fob off.  Take it up with the taxi licencing authority.

it is probably a bot whois programmed to deal with RTAs and gives a standard answer of getting a crime number.

Where should i go with it, as i am housebound now as my chair is knackered.

Shall i try the police or shall i go back for Uber and ask about their insurance.

    Thanks
