in Heat pumps
I'm struggling to find the best tariff for a new supply we are having conneted on the 22nd Aug 25 on a new build house very well insulated with a LG air source heat pump but no solar, found british gas and OVO very unhelpful so far and previously had a very bad experience with octopus at our current house (tried to overcharged us £7k that after 6mths back and forth they agreed was a mistake but very stressful time) still thinking they are the only option on cosy?? Thank you in advance for your input

Received today, another supplier with no air source heat pump tariffs, this is rapidly becoming a nightmare0

Eon has one but the off-peak it's quoting is around 17p/kWh at night, then day at c.20p/kWh, and a peak of 36p/kWh

Depending on your usage patterns you might find Octopus Agile is cheaper for much of the year (it certainly is for us) with Cosy as a backup if Agile gets a bit too expensive in winter.

EDF has one https://www.edfenergy.com/heating/electric/air-source-heat-pump/tariffs/heat-pump-tracker
And Scottish Power, off-peak 11am-4pm 14p/kWh and above-standard rate the rest of the time https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/heat-pump-tariff
(But to get accurate rates I had to go here https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/tariff-information-labels )

I don't think there is really any such thing as an Air Source Heat Pump tariff. Sure, some tariffs are marketed as such but typically you keep an ASHP running continually if not continuously so if the tariff requires you to avoid expensive time slots then that may be difficult without getting cold for a while.
That said I do reasonably well on an EV tariff that gives me cheap electricity from midnight to 7 am. I can heat my hot water for the day duding the cheap period and also get the house back up to temperature after a night-time set-back.Reed0 -

We use Octopus Cosy in winter for our heat pump, but we also have solar and a battery which means all our import is at the cheapest rate.Last winter we only had solar (no battery), and our average import price on Cosy was around 19-20p, shifting as much usage as possible to the cheap periods and avoiding the peak rate. We would turn back the heating overnight between 12-4am, and bump it up between 1-4pm ready to turn back during the 4-7pm peak. Not ideal, but achieved 19-20p average. On sunny mornings in winter, there was enough solar to cover the heating just ticking over from around 10am onwards which minimised our usage in the 7am-1pm day rate time slot.I have had no issues with billing with Octopus. I monitor our usage daily in a spreadsheet, and email or phone them if they are slow to produce our monthly bill. I check the bill matches my expectations from my spreadsheet. Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter0

Alnat1 said:We're on Cosy and our battery ran out a couple of times around 9.30pm last winter, even with the heat pump set-back starting at 9pm, so the Good Energy wouldn't work for us. We would need around 15-20kW of storage to make it work. You need to look at it holistically.Having to buy a few kWh at 30p might still work out OK if most of them are only 12p.N. Hampshire, he/him.
