I react terribly to insect bites, so all through the year I take antihistamines twice a day and garlic capsules too

it would probably  be field mice or voles if it is a rural property.

I used to live in a crofting area and field mice visited our garage and shed.  They kept my dog amused sniffing them out.

Living in the country you are sharing the space with wild 'critters'.

Where ever you go in Scotland you can encounter midges between May and September.  They are more active at dawn and dusk and atracted to warm, shaded and damp areas

They do not like heat or wind.
