I’ve had double width electric garage doors in two houses for many many years with no problems

Are you easily able to hand wind the door, so you can check it is all working correctly, apart from the motor? If it is, I can’t see why you would pay £kkk to replace the door, when it’s only £500 for a new motor. Maybe you are taking a risk without a warranty, but it is an enormous difference in price.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I've pulled out the paperwork of the installation again and had a deep-dive google, and it looks like I am the owner of one of the utterly crap Essati (not Asante) doors installed by Rolling Door Concepts (now in liquidation, and have been featured on Watchdog). 😵‍💫 This explains a lot, and I think we will be going for a whole new door rather than a motor replacement. I still think it was odd that an Essex company did the installation even though I am in the South West and was surprised it was so cheap. 🙄 I feel a bit more comfortable getting a new electric door that should last more than a few years (and is warrantied for 7).

Thank you for all the comments, they were very helpful.

That was my initial view, but if you read my last post you will see why I have now changed my mind and will fork out for a new door. The current one likely isn't safe. My husband thought it didn't look very secure - the top box is fitted into sections of wood which have been attached the wall. No wonder they have a history of falling down onto people. 🤯

Given what you've told us, I think that's a reasonable decision
