Isn't asante just the door controller?

I think so -  what he needs is a local installer who knows what they are talking about.

If that motor has failed it has failed for a reason

But spending perhaps £3  when a good overhaul and new motor by someone who knows what they re talking about for £500 is a better option
I can't actually find Asante on anything. I've looked all over the door. The only brand I can see is Neco, and that is on the controllers and the sensor strips. But the guy was pretty clear that it was Asante, and the controls were Neco. 🤷‍♀️

I'm going to phone around for other options.

I think a lot depends on how dry your garage is.  If it's quite damp and/or has excessive gaps around the door then moisture might get into the motor.  Similarly if there's loose plaster/wood/dust that can fall or get blown around, that can gum up the moving components.  As with anything, it's a fairly simple piece of kit but must be installed properly (perfectly level etc) and maintained with some occasional grease/WD40 silicone lube and ensure no debris has built up on moving parts
    How to keep your garage dry;
Step 1 - obvs stop any water coming in.
Step 2 - keep it as draughty as possible. Really.

Personally, if only the motor has failed (and I bet even that's an 'if'), I'd be looking to replace just the motor. But then I'd be DIYing it.
I'm not going to suggest that this co is trying to fob you off, but I'd certainly be looking at getting alternative quotes and options. To completely replace such a young and otherwise ok door is bonkers, advice, I think.
Try a Google for Garage door repair' or similar.

I think you are right to suggest other alternatives/quotes. They said a replacement motor is £550, with no guarantee, which made us think a new door was the only viable choice. But on second thought I will phone around and get a second opinion on it.

Ok, that sort of cost makes it a less attractive proposition, especially if there's a separate cause for it to fail.
But, I'd like evidence that the motor has failed. Did you observe what tests they carried out?
Any chance of photos of the offending motor?

I don't have a photo (will pop out and take a pic in little while). He tried the obvious things, like the fobs and wall unit (which we had already done). Then he took the cover off the wall unit, and tested the fobs again. We could see a red light flashing on the wall unit as he was trying the fob buttons. Then he unscrewed one of connectors on the wall unit and fitted a cable to it which had a console with buttons. He said he was bypassing the wall unit (I think) and directly testing the roller/motor. It was still dead, no movement at all and that is when he said it must be the motor. 🤷‍♀️

Have you thought about sectional doors? We have a Hörmann sectional door which isn’t motorised, although they easily can be and I regret not doing it now.

The advantage over roller doors is that they can be made thicker and have insulation between the two skins of the door. They seal all round so our garage is now warmer in winter as well as completely dry. No more leaves blowing in either.

The only possible disadvantage is the track which takes up some overhead space, but I’ve never found that a problem.

If you’re going to replace it then IMO I’d stick with the names that have been around for years like Hörmann and Garador.  You shouldn’t have the issue of spares not being available then.

Oh I didn't realise the motor would be in a housing. I thought I could just pry off the cover and it would be there. I took a photo anyway, also of the wall unit if it is any help.

The tests sound pretty respectable. Clearly power sent directly to the motor ain't having a response, so yes, the motor has to be suspect.
Are you sure the motor is at that end? Doesn't seem much room!
Search all around the casings at each end for manufacturer's names, and any spec plates.

Pretty sure it is that end, as I can see something red through the holes going partway along the casing which must the tubular bit. The other side looks even more bare (pic attached).

I've had a good look all around the casing and cannot see anything at all which identifies it. 🤷‍♀️

It is a tube motor mounted inside of the hex shaft.
the yellow points are the limit switches and the the sticking out shaft and oval ring is the hand winding attachment.
