I appreciate that this news (that you havent confirmed is true yet) could taint your experience of your new home. What is the outcome you are looking for here? To give the house back and get a refund? A share of the cannabis profits? Compensation? An apology?

As others have said i dont think this is something to worry about given it was 2 years ago. I dont think it will affect future sales of the property or its value.

Have you checked the police crime map website to see if it is actually factual, you enter your postcode and it lists crimes in the area. https://www.police.uk/pu/your-area/

We were burgled in December, they got into our garage and into the house via the utility room attached to the garage while we were sleeping and stole our 2 cars. I wont be telling the buyers when i sell unless i am specifically asked any questions that may be relevant.

I honestly don't see what the fuss is about.

It was two years ago.  It's gone.  Over.

Houses have history .  Some have had domestic violence in them, or deaths, or affairs .  Some have cannabis growth.

I believe you are letting your fear spoil your enjoyment of your new home.

Just fix up what needs fixing (all older houses need something), and enjoy it.

I must admit, it was very nice of your neighbour to 'make you aware' (not).  Why?  What was the purpose of this?  Gossip?  To upset you before you've even moved in properly?  I can't see any other reason.  I would keep them at arm's length in the future.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i m pretty sure there's a specific question about "have you ever been burgled" on the standard sales form!

Before they bought their last home over 60 years ago, my parents were aware it had been burgled, but this did not deter them from buying. Sadly my mother died there over 20 years ago collapsing with a massive heart attack on the bathroom floor.

So the house had suffered a burglary and a death. New owners added an extension so the window where the burglars had entered was bricked up.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

There is not a specific question about whether you have been burgled on the current Law Society TA6 property information form.

There is a question "Have you made any buildings insurance claims?" which it might be possible to say "no" to if you only claimed for contents stolen following a burglary, not buildings damage.

I got caught out buying a house which had been burgled. It was only after I'd been burgled and I checked back on the form the vendors filled in, to see that they'd obviously asked their solicitor how to answer the question, has the property ever been burgled during your ownership. The answer No was circled with a single ring. Every other question on the form, the answer had been circled with a double ring. And they never signed the form. It was a probate property and technically they were truthful. Morally they weren't, and the vendor was the person who discovered her mother's property had been burgled while she was in hospital so it's not like she didn't know. I found this out from my neighbour, who neglected to tell me that the burglers came back and broke in again (they said they didn't want to worry me, I'd rather have been worried).  And the same thing happened to me. On the day I'd agreed a quote for an alarm, I got home to find they'd been in again.  They came back for a third time but got put off by the bell boxes which the alarm company had put up, even though the alarm was yet to be installed.

On buying our current home, again a probate property, we got the solicitor to ask the question has the property ever been burgled to your knowledge. I suggest anybody else buying a home does the same.

Regarding things putting people off buying a home, there's a property near us that's been up for sale for about 3.5 years following a murder/suicide. I'm assuming the EAs are telling prospective purchasers as it did make the national news.

I grew weed and smoked weed in every house I lived in for a period of over twenty years. Even left some for the people that bought my parent's house. Don't stress about it.

OP, we didn't tell our buyers about the bodies we buried in the back garden, so things could be worse
