    I feel like an idiot - buying a dud house with possible long term issues. 
    Why is it a dud house? You had a survey which, presumably, didn't pick up on anything major. The surveyor is coming back so that should set your mind at rest. The fact that a few years ago the house was a cannabis factory really isn’t a problem now. I honestly think you are stressing about something that just isn’t an issue.

    The seller only needs to answer the questions truthfully.

    What is the exact question where you consider the seller lied when answering?

    They do not need to offer information not asked for. 


    How many years will go back to establish if son ex thing happened in the house that you don’t like?  10 years? 20 years? 
     
    What long term issues do envisage occurring?

    Again you need  proof, not something that you think might / might not happen

    Surveyor did miss things, which is why he is coming back on Wed. The house is 75 years old but there is some movement and cracking, and a big dip in the kitchen floor that he missed. 
    I’d wager absolutely none of that was caused by the cannabis factory.  Our house has a dip in the kitchen floor and some minor cracking from historical settlement and ours was never a cannabis factory.  The family before us owned it from new and were certainly not part of the local crime syndicate.

    Just enjoy your new house and repair any minor faults the cannabis factory might have done.  There is nothing to worry about.  You do not have a 'dud' house.  You have the lovely house you liked enough to buy. 

    Most older houses have something wrong with them that has to be repaired, this is no different.

    A lot of people have concerns about houses when they move in - they never look like they did at the time of viewing and there are lots of niggly things that need doing -particularly with older houses 

    TBH re the cannabis factory - properties with a history are great but none of gets declared on the TA6

    Your new neighbour made you aware (how very thoughtful of them  :/   )   , so have you had any confirmation from anywhere else?  You say you are now seeing signs, but thats prompted by what you've been told which may not be accurate.  An internet search of your street name and cannabis should bring up something, thats if theres anything to find.

    I'm  sure that whatever was or was not going on in the house, your neighbour would not have had access to the house themselves and seen it with their own eyes.  So at best will just be repeating whatever they heard from other people or maybe read somewhere, getting exaggerated with every telling.

    OP, we didn't tell our buyers about the bodies we buried in the back garden, so things could be worse :wink:

    Seriously, it is actually quite a common scenario where criminals legitimately rent a property, convert it to a cannabis factory, complete their grow, then leave the property. Some gangs will even fix the house up so you'd never know they were there, but usually they wreck the place and the landlord is left to fix the damage. Sounds like the landlord has done the repairs and decided being a landlord isn't for them and sold it. If the house was worth what I paid in the condition it is, I wouldn't worry. More of an interesting story IMO.

    Are you familiar with cannabis? As drugs go, it’s fairly innocuous- just a leafy plant that generally makes people feel relaxed and good
    humoured. Perhaps, if you are unfamiliar with it, you have bracketed it with heroin or crack in your mind but it’s just a plant and very different from those other drugs. I genuinely can’t imagine anything will have been left behind. I hope you can look forward positively towards the future and remind yourself what it was that made you like this house so much initially.
